If you're anything like me, you have a fascination with dark things. Graveyards, Halloween, spoopy movies (Love all of Tim Burton's movies), and especially dark video games. That's why I'm making this game jam, to bring together all my darkness loving, horror crazed friends to rack your brain and to see what kind of story, told through a video game, you can make. And with Halloween right around the corner, now is the best time to make that happen! The game jam will start October 1st, 6:00 a.m. (Central Time Zone) and end October 29, 6:00 a.m. The game jam is all about making a dark looking game (Dark graphics, chilling atmosphere, crazy looking characters); however it doesn't have to be a horror/scary game. It is possible to make, for example, a silly dark-themed game (Think of The nightmare before Christmas) There will be no ranking system. The theme for the game jam will be released one week before the game jam start, giving you a little bit of time to start working out a story, but you can't start the project until the start date.
With this theme, you are expected to build your game's story around this concept/idea. That's really all you are required to use this theme for because I want to leave as much room as possible for creativity and imagination in your games! So let's put our creativity hats on and start writing that well anticipated story you all are so eager to make! Because the game jam has not started and won't be open until October 1st, you should wait until then to start your project; However, I put the theme out a week early so you guys can start writing a story in advance so you won't waste time writing and building a game and then changing halfway through. (Because I know how that goes).
Here are some examples of dark themed games from different genres.

The horror genre is my favorite type of games, especially ones with an interesting story, so I can't wait to see what you guys make!
