Demake your favourite game within your favourite system's limitations!

Ever wanted to see what your favorite game looks like on an old retro system? Why don't you find out by yourself!

This jam is all about trying to cram as much of a game's idea on an old system.

You can find a list of the allowed retro systems here

If your favorite system isn't on the list, message me on Twitter or join my Discord server to ask about it!

Rules:

  • If you already got a game that fits the jam but you haven't finished yet, you can totally start working off of that, although try to avoid submitting a game that was pretty much done before the jam starts, what's the fun in that?
  • Be sure that your game runs on at the least Windows, if you end up doing Homebrew/Romhacks then be sure to mention the preferred emulator in which the game can be played on your site or even better, bundle it with your game's download (as long as said emulator doesn't require illegally obtained files such as a BIOS file).
  • No NSFW.
  • You can either name your submission after the game you chose to demake or call it whatever you want, although if you go with the latter then you need to specify what game you demade somewhere in your submission's page.
  • Homebrew for your chosen system is also totally allowed and embraced.
  • Rom hacks are allowed as long as you only provide a patch and not a rom file as your download and if the hack is original enough, simple hacks such as a mere palette/sprite/model swap will be discarded. The same rules that apply to homebrew also apply to this category.
  • Pre-made assets are totally allowed as long as they fit the  limitations of your chosen system

Ratings:

All of the following refer to how well your submission matched the characteristics of the system you chose:

  • Graphics
  • Sound
  • Controls

Questions:

"Do I need to demake a whole game?"

Of course not! but at least you should try to keep the game's concept through your demake.

"How many people can I work with?"

As many as you want, although as always do not go with too many people, this is a small jam after all.

"Do I need to strictly follow my chosen system's limitations?"

If you're struggling against one limitation within the system you chose, you can ask if you can avoid it on my server.
