What are cursed images? 

Cursed images are an Internet image-sharing phenomenon used to describe a number of things. The definition is inarticulate, but includes images that evoke a sense of uneasiness or discomfort in the viewer. Characteristics of cursed images include dated or degraded photography, unexplained or unusual subject matter, and dark or poorly-lit environments. 

What are liminal spaces and elegaic auras? 

Liminal spaces and elegaic auras are a similar phenomenon, based on environments rather than characters or situations. It is based on the principle of liminality. Common characteristics of these images are disused, empty, or poorly-lit spaces, particularly urban spaces that are normally occupied. Surrealism and isolation are common features. 

So what is this jam about?

This jam is about making games inspired by these aesthetics, in a judgment-free, fun event for anyone, of any skill level to submit to! 

Rules

The rules are simple: 

• Choose one (or more) images that you feel embody a good cursed image, liminal space, or elegaic aura. 
• Create a game, of any genre, in any medium or format you like, that is inspired by the image(s) you chose.
• Make sure to include the cursed image in the game submission page to show everyone your source of inspiration. 

And, of course, have fun!
