General information

Cubos is an open-source student-developed game engine built in modern C++ where everything is made of voxels.

We are currently on our 7ᵗʰ release, and the engine is still very barebones, but we hope that with this Jam we can harness your feedback and improve the engine. The challenge is simple: in 9 days, build a game using Cubos.

We hope you enjoy the challenge of using a costume build engine and wish you good luck!

Event schedule

The jam event will be mostly remote.

  • The opening and closing of the event will be on-site events.
  • The development of the games will be online, through our server.
  • The Jam will last roughly one week.

At the opening on-site event - September 12ᵗʰ, from 18h00 to 21h30:

  • We will have the workshop with the setup, tutorial  & theme reveal
(This event will also be  streamed - but we recommend the on-site option)

At the closing on-site event - September 21ˢᵗ, from 18h00 to 21h30:

  • We will have a showcase of the games

We will have room for all of you, for the two on-site events in the Alameda Campus of Instituto Superior Técnico, at the computer science room F2 .

Jam Rules

  • Everyone is welcome, whether you’re going solo or collaborating with others.
  • Your game must be started and completed during the jam period. No late submissions will be accepted.
  • We welcome all genres, as long as your game is made using Cubos.
  • To create the voxel models, you are free to use any 3D software that exports to the supported file format (.vox) - we recommend Magic Voxel
  • You’re free to use any assets, provided they are legally sourced. Don’t forget to check licenses and give proper credit.
  • While mature themes are allowed, discriminatory content of any kind will not be tolerated.
