The Crafted in a Shell SRD is designed to help people to make narrative, character led TTRPGs with ease. Add your theme, mix and match your wanted mechanics and build a unique feeling thematic TTRPG with effortless style. Crafted in a Shell makes the mechanics simple, giving you the room to perfect your chosen vibe.

This game jam is for people to create their own solo journaling TTRPGs using the Crafted in a Shell SRD as their basis. For this jam, we are accepting submissions from people making their own full games or just using the SRD as a jumping point for their own inspiration. Whether it is a fully fledged and playable TTRPG or a supplement to co-exist with a pre-existing Crafted in a Shell game, we are excited to see them! The games don't have to be perfectly designed, they don't have to be pristine, the best Crafted in a Shell games take a vibe and roll with it, whether it's cosy, creepy, cute, or an emotional wrecking ball, it will work well with the SRD.

Crafted in a Shell started as the game Everyone Deserves Shelter, a game about a hermit crab trying to find a new shell. At heart, EDS is about altruism, helping others, and the right to be comfortable. The system is structured around people the characters meet, how those encounters make an impact and how that pushes the character's emotional state and personal journey. To make a great Crafted in a Shell game, consider the theme, what the journey means to the character, and what the ending of the story might mean for the character.

The winners of the previous Crafted in a Shell jam were Light in The Lantern by Penny Blake and Goodbye to You by Stephanie Bryant (Mortaine). There have been plenty of amazing Crafted in a Shell games, you can find them all here: https://itch.io/c/4633837/games-that-use-the-crafted-in-a-shell-srd

The Crafted in a Shell SRD Jam 2: Back in The Shell is being hosted in connection to The Hawthorne Effect kickstarter. The Hawthorne Effect is a surveillance and observation TTRPG with a 90s creepy tech aesthetic. The Hawthorne Effect uses the Crafted in a Shell SRD and is based on Be Still, Archivist

First and foremost, this jam is about crafting games and experiences but we do have a few rules in order to keep the structure of the jam and the comfort of those within it.

  1. All Games must be based on the Crafted in a Shell SRD: This means it can be a full game or a supplement inspired by it but it must be based on the SRD.
  2. Multiple submissions are allowed: As long as your submission is complete enough to be playable, you are able to submit as many entries as you wish. Any games that are unplayable or are unrelated will be deleted
  3. NO AI: This is a simple one, no AI writing, art, or anything else. Any entry with generative content or stolen work will be deleted with utter glee.
  4. Don't be a bigot: Following on from the last point, don't be a dick, respect others. The first Crafted in a Shell game was about altruism, the system doesn't work with hateful views.
  5. Free copies: Paid entries are ok but we do request you include enough community copies for every person in the jam.

This game jam isn't about winning or losing but about crafting experiences. As such rankings won't be included in this jam. However, I do also believe in the constructive feedback so for this jam:

  • A prize will be rewarded to my two favourite entries. The prizes will be announced later.
  • I will read, rate, and comment on every submission and I ask others to do the same when the jam comes to an end.
  • I will give bigger, more involved feedback where requested.
