To celebrate the release of CorgiSpace, our new collection of 8-bit games that have short legs on purpose, Finji is hosting a game jam about making games that are SUPPOSED to be small!

Adam "Atomic" Saltsman, Co-founder of Finji and creator of CorgiSpace, developed the 13 games that make up the collection in his free time (which, as Director of Finji and parent of two teenagers is actually pretty limited). Along the way, he discovered a lot about the art of making small games on purpose and how to make that process FUN.

The 3 tenets of CorgiSpace are:

  1. Only do things that are easy and not obvious.
  2. Separate your ideas from your formulas.
  3. Game design is about noticing things.

So, CorgiSpace is about doing things that are easy and not obvious, not giving up on our ideas, keeping our formulas fluid, and just having a lovely time noticing the weirdest little things. To learn more about each of these principles and the CorgiSpace game design philosophy, check out our YouTube playlist with inspirational videos from Adam! There's even a video on how to get started with making games using PICO-8.

  1. Submissions should have short legs! Create a game that follows the CorgiSpace design philosophy and keep things small, easy, and not obvious. (Corgis are not required, but they are cute.)
  2. Your game should be created during the jam period. Works in progress are ok!
  3. You are welcome to participate solo or as part of a team. Please be sure to credit all contributors!
  4. You do not need to use Pico-8 to participate. Any engine or toolset is welcome.
  5. Keep things PG-13. No graphic violence, explicit sexual content, discriminatory content, bigotry, or hate speech.
  6. All submitted games should be your own original work. No AI.
  7. All skill and experience levels are welcome!

Like CorgiSpace, CorgiJam centers creativity and fun. There will be no rankings, judging, or competition.

If you are ok with having your game played in our post-Jam Twitch stream or featured in the Finji newsletter or our socials, please let us know in your submission! If you post about your project on social media, tag us @FinjiCo and use #CorgiJam

Hang out with other Corgi jammers in the Finji Discord! Keep a game dev diary, ask for feedback, connect with experienced devs (including Adam Saltsman, Finji co-founder and creator of CorgiSpace), and more!
