Climate change is destroying our planet and the real world event of the COP26 in Glasgow is an effort to help bring people together to raise awareness and to help solve some of the most important issues related to climate change. This game jam mirrors the real world event in that it is trying to bring as many people together to create games around the topic of climate change
Saving the planet requires massive international cooperation, how could you inspire people to act through your games?
Its fun to take part in a game jam and taking part in a game jam is a cool way to help show off your wild imagination to others. You will be helping to change peoples perspectives on issues of climate change by having people play your amazing creation
The best games will be shown during COP26 in Glasgow during the COP26 at Glasgow Caledonian University on 5th November! World leaders may see your inspirational game and spur them into action!
There will be accolades to games that meet certain criteria and possibly some small prizes such as gift vouchers
First there is the best game award which is voted on by the public and participants and is the main award of this game jam. This vote is based on the following three criteria which the public will rate:
Therefore please consider these factors when thinking about your game. There are additional awards that will be given based on criteria from judges that will be involved. Glasgow Caledonian University's Climate Justice department and some local game studios will be also be judging the games. Awards for these are based on:
A prize of £50-£100 in vouchers will be given for each award too! Please think how you can tailor you game above to meet the criteria.
There are some major and urgent topics that need to be acted on to address climate change. These range across all aspects of our lives. You can find out more about some of these challenges from the following places:
The main thin is that you choose a topic that inspires you and you think would make a great game or interactive piece. It should want to get people discussing your game and topic in an interesting way. It would also be better to stay away from topics that are main stream like sea levels rising unless you think you can bring some new that has not been seen before or open up a new discussion from an interesting perspective. For instance it would be much better to focus on something that gets little attention, like did you know the clothing industry produces around 10% of global carbon emissions? Yet topics like these are overlooked. Please try to be creative and imaginitive and go for the non-obvious topics.
University lecturer Hamid Homatash of Glasgow Caledonian University is hosting this event. Hamid has a keen passion for helping to save the environment and loves videogames. Why not combine the two to try and make a real different to people's attitudes and rally everyone together to help contribute to saving our planet.
