Composer's Quest Jam #2

Welcome to the second edition of our Composer's Quest Jam (Old name "The Game That Doesn't Exist OST Jam")!

This jam is dedicated entirely to creating original music that could fit into a video game. Unlike our previous jam, your music does not need to be written for a specific game, story, character, or scenario. The goal is simply to create tracks that feel like they belong in a video game.

Whether you're an experienced composer or just getting started, everyone is welcome to participate!

¡Winner of the previous edition!

Video Game Music

Your submission should be music that could reasonably appear in a video game. Beyond that, you have complete creative freedom.

You are not required to compose for a specific game situation such as:

  • Main Menu
  • Boss Battle
  • Exploration
  • Shop Theme
  • Cutscene
  • Credits

You may choose any style, mood, genre, or setting you want.

Rules

1. Original Music Only

All submitted music must be your own original work.

Inspiration from existing music is allowed, but direct plagiarism, copying melodies, or heavily recreating existing songs is strictly prohibited.

2. Maximum of 3 Tracks

You may submit up to 3 tracks.

If you submit multiple tracks, they should be noticeably different from one another. We encourage participants to explore different moods, genres, or styles.

3. Music Must Be Created During the Jam

All tracks must be composed during the duration of the jam.

Using unfinished ideas, templates, or samples created before the jam is acceptable, but the actual composition and production of the submitted tracks must take place during the event.

4. No AI-Generated Music

The use of artificial intelligence to generate music is not allowed.

This includes AI systems that create melodies, harmonies, arrangements, or complete songs for you.

Participants are expected to compose and produce their music themselves.

5. Use a DAW

All music must be created using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

A DAW is simply software used to create, record, edit, and arrange music on a computer.

Some free DAWs you can use include:

  • LMMS
  • Cakewalk
  • Waveform Free
  • GarageBand (Mac only)

If you're new to music production, don't worry! Free DAWs are more than enough to participate and have fun.

Submission Requirements

Your submission must include:

  • At least 1 original music track
  • The audio file(s) in a common format (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, etc.)
  • A title for each track

Optional:

  • A short description of your creative process
  • DAW project screenshots
  • Cover art

Judging Criteria

Tracks may be evaluated based on:

  • Creativity
  • Musicality
  • Production Quality
  • Originality
  • How well the music feels like it belongs in a video game

Have Fun!

The main goal of this jam is to create music, experiment with new ideas, and share your work with other composers.

Good luck, and we can't wait to hear what you create!
