Have fun and take it easy. Forget the usual stress of game development. Perfection is overrated anyway. You will have 14 Days to design, build, and publish a working game/prototype/demo. Game Jams are a great way to test ideas, build on your skills, and meet other awesome creative people. Chill Jam 14 is the first under the new administration.
Themes are there to get you to think outside the box!
The theme for this Jam is: **[TBA]**
The additional theme: **[TBA]**
The Wild card(s): **[TBA]**
If your game goes against Twitch TOS we will not be able to stream it, so those will be instantly disqualified by default unfortunately.
Feel free to use any (or no) engine. No limits on the tools you use. Pick any game engine, art software, or audio workstation, etc, that sparks joy. Minimum requirement is that any non tabletop submissions must be playable as either a downloadable .exe (recommended), or playable web browser build.
You may use game assets that you have rights to use (Purchased, Free, Original assets) [PLEASE do not submit a game you've already started earlier or even finished for other projects!] NO AI Generated assets are allowed. This includes textures, meshes, sprites, music, sfx, voice acting, in-game text, or scripts/code. As AI generated code is notably difficult to verify, I will assume in good faith that participants will act on good faith and only use AI for bugfixing code or reformatting spaghetti code into something more cohesive, but won't rely on it for the ideation or creation of in-game systems.
Nope! But we recommend keeping your team somewhat small to help keep communication simple. The suggested Team Size is 8 or less, but there is no limit to team size.
As long as they were all started during the jam period! It's highly recommended to spend your time working and polishing one game instead of trying to make multiple games, though.
The rating for this Jam is simply community-driven. Winners will be determined based on number of votes and the ranking within the votes. Specifically for Chill Jam 14, we will use the Itch.io rating system, however plans for a more robust judging are in the works for future Chill Jams.
We rate games on their POLISH:
Once the submission period has ended, everyone who has submitted a game, or is credited as a contributor on the game's page will be able to vote on other entries.
Once the rating period is over, you will be able to see where your game placed in each category and overall. The winner(s) will receive a special role in the Discord server (and in future jams we're considering offering prizes such as asset packs or cash), but don't let not winning discourage you! Remember that Chill Jam is all about relaxing and having fun!
Don't stress too much, this jam is intended to just be a fun way to engage creatively. We can work with those who miss the deadline by a short while but all submissions are due at the due date. During the rating period you are able to push game-breaking bug fixes but cannot add more content until after the week-long rating period. There is a 3 day grace period for late submissions.
The wild card and Additional theme are completely optional themes to use if you would like the additional challenge for developing your game's demo, and won't impact your rating.
- Anything you make during Chill Jam is your property. Chill Devs, LaceEditing, Panda, etc, claim no rights or ownership of your submission.
- We reserve the right to disqualify or remove any submission from the competition, so don't be a freak.
