WELCOME

You're invited to take part in the first CERAMIC-Strict game jam!

What's this all about?

CERAMIC-Strict is a set of rules to define a type of mechanic or procedure for table-top roleplaying games that don't require a random input. That means we aren't rolling dice, drawing cards or swinging pendulums.

This sounds a lot like Trilemma Adventure's MOSAIC-Strict.

You're right, it does.  All CERAMIC-Strict projects could be compatible with MOSAIC-Strict. The difference is that is that a CERAMIC-Strict project has no random input.

You can learn more about MOSAIC-Strict here.

CERAMIC-Strict mechanics and procedures are:

  • Choice-based / Coreless
  • Ethical / Egalitarian
  • Randomless
  • Accessible / Attested
  • Modular
  • Independent
  • Community / Cherry-picked

You can read more about CERAMIC-Strict here.

LIMITATION

Choice-based

Players choose and make actions without an external force making their decision for them. i.e. a rollable table isn't CERAMIC-Strict.

Coreless

A CERAMIC-Strict module doesn’t assume that a particular system is in play.

Ethical

A CERAMIC-Strict project contributes to a healthy game. Safety and wellbeing tools are first-class in the world of CERAMIC-Strict. Where possible, CERAMIC-Strict modules make use of and promote wellbeing tools.

Egalitarian

A CERAMIC-Strict modules favour mechanics that tend towards themes of power sharing, mutual respect, democratised actions and co-operative play.

Randomless

This is the main one. A CERAMIC-Strict project does not have a random-element.

Accessible

All people should feel comfortable making and playing roleplaying games. A CERAMIC-Strict module will always seek to include everyone at the table and should never be used to exclude anyone.

Attested

A CERAMIC-Strict project will define itself as CERAMIC-Strict. If a project doesn't refer to itself as CERAMIC-Strict, it isn't. This helps us find eachother in the wild.

Modular

CERAMIC-Strict modules are understood to be just one part of a larger whole. They are meant to be combined, mixed and matched. They won’t all fit together in beautiful ways, however.

Independent

A CERAMIC-Strict project cannot refer to any other text, only itself. It can’t assume the system the players are using makes use of point scoring or tokens.

Community / Cherry Picked

The community can post CERAMIC-Strict projects to the CERAMIC-Strict Jam for voting and rating. The CERAMIC Jam is rated and the year’s winners will be announced and rewarded.

Can I submit more than one mechanic?

Can I submit a mechanic I have already made?

Yes!

Can I make changes during the rating period?

Yes, please make sure that the original can be downloaded.

Does it have to be randomless?

Yes!

Absolutely! There's no limit to team members.

What isn’t considered a randomless mechanic?

Anything involving dice, drawing cards, a pendulum, anything that can give a result without player input.

I have submitted this to other jams, can I submit?

Yes, as long as you hold the rights to do so.

Do I have to say that my game is CERAMIC-Strict in the game page?

Yes, to be considered CERAMIC-Strict, the project will define itself as one. If the project doesn't say that it is CERAMIC-Strict, it isn't. It helps us to find each other in the wild.

Sure! Mechanics submitted in other languages won't be treated less favourably.

Can I charge for my mechanic or procedure?
