What is Character Design?

the process of creating an appearance, personality, and defining traits of a character that reflect personality and story objectives. The goal being to make characters that are unique and memorable.

Objective

Step 1:
Select a one GDD from this jam :

Step 2:
Create NPCs (Non-Playable Characters)  and one Playable Character based on the selected GDD.

Step 3: 
Submit your assets as downloadable files and  upload screenshots to your project page

Grading Criteria:

  • Fit:
    Does the character's design reflect the information in the selected GDD? 1 star = went off script and 5 stars means completely followed the document. (Give 1 star if submission did NOT cite the GDD that was selected)
  • Identity:
    are there any defining features or artistic direction that obviously separates the playable characters from the NPCs?
  • Creativity:
    1 star means Does the design remind you of another work you have seen and 5 stars if its something you have never seen anywhere
  • Constraints:
    Were all constraints followed? 1 star means no, and 5 stars means yes.
  • Bonus points:
    Did the artist go above and beyond by adding gifs, rigging, cover art, and animations

1)

Cubism

What is Cubism? For this jam cubism will be defined as Fragmented with multiple perspectives. Choose whether you wish to follow easy or hard mode guidelines.

Easy: One element of the design must have Cubism or obviously be inspired by cubism. 

Hard: All aspects of the design is cubism


2)
All characters must NOT be Bipedal (meaning do not walk on two feet)


3)
Must use this  color palate for the playable character (go based on the hex color code). Feel free to use this free resources to find the colors. https://www.colorhexa.com/

Submission Details: 

-2d and 3d assets are allowed
-mention in description if files are 2d or 3d in nature
-png files for 2d assets with (optional PSD files included)
- FBX, OBJ, and gITF are accepted for 3d files. FBX is the safest choice for animated or complex assets, OBJ for simple static models, and glTF for web or real-time applications
-must include some screenshots of assets on project page (even if its just sketches)
-a method of contact incase someone wishes to use assets but needs them to be tweaked
-social media twitter handle for giving credit
-10 characters Max (feel free to experiment with forms as variations can be created from one form)
-5 Characters Minimum (of course one of which should be the playable character)
