You trip on a cord in time's silly carpet, and right yourself with a tenuous grasp on the constellation that your presence has formed with an earlier one. Surroundings collapse and crystallize. As you snatch up the shiny bits, they project tales into thoughtspace. What happened here?

Tell a small story

Join us this spring for a week-long modding jam for Caves of Qud, everyone's favorite indie science-fantasy roguelike RPG! Challenge yourself to weave a story into the fabric of Qud.

Submissions

This jam is unranked. If you release your mod under the Creative Commons Zero license when submitting your entry, we will consider it for inclusion in a compilation modpack to be released after the jam ends. Work by yourself or with friends! (New!) This jam, we will be accepting mods containing C# code. More info about submitting your mod is available on the submission page or in the FAQ below.

Frequently(?) Asked Questions

When do I work on the mod?

We encourage you to only work on the creation of your mod during the week when submissions are open—that is, from March 15th, 2024 at 22:00 UTC to March 22nd, 2024 at 22:00 UTC. Conceptualizing outside of this time is allowed.

If you have never modded Caves of Qud before, consider going through the steps of creating a mod to get acquainted with the tools and concepts. The wiki's Snapjaw Mages tutorial is a good start.

How do I ensure my mod is considered for the jam pack?

In order to be considered for the jam pack, the mod must be released under Creative Commons Zero (there will be a toggle on the submission page). Due to the complexity of correctly combining multiple C# mods, we will be taking a more curatorial angle with compiling the pack. We recommend following general best practices while creating your mod and avoiding Harmony patching.

What happens after the pack is released?

To lower the long-term maintenance burden, we will only actively update the pack for the two weeks following the mod jam (i.e. until the end of March). After this period, we ask that you send us Pull Requests if you wish to update your mod in the pack. We may remove mods that break the pack.

What is a vignette?

A vignette is a short literary sketch, detailing a person or a short period of time. Applied in-game, examples could include the flattened remains and the ancient bones located in the waterlogged tunnel.

Live and drink, traveler.
