"Did you know that you can fit ~40 standard sized playing cards, five dice, and a rules sheet printed on the back of a J-card inside a cassette case without posts? Do something with this knowledge."
Elizabeth Little, Shrike Studio founder, lead writer/designer, Bsky post: https://shorturl.at/OmIS0

Let's do something with this knowledge, then.

WHAT IS THE CASSETTE CASE GAME JAM?
This is a jam is about making TTRPG stuff that fits in a cassette case box.
The idea is not new:

  • Zine Cassettes (Zettes) are game collections on a USB, packaged in tape cases (e.g. Indiepocalypse series, by Pizza Pranks).
  • Some music labels publish tapes with adventures on the cover (e.g. Heimat Der Katastrophe).
  • Dungeon Synths are very popular (e.g. Witch Bolt).
  • Some TTRPG designers dabble in making specialized music for their projects.

But there aren't that many physical TTRPGs to utilize this format.
Which is weird, because it's a really fun design challenge, it's peak nostalgia, and the niche is almost empty (out of 50k physical games on Itch, there are probably 5 that fit the bill).
So, this is an open invitation to create something new and interesting with it.

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?

Anything related to the general idea of a "game in a cassette case".
It can be a full game, an adventure, a tool, a box for a solo-rpg, a mini DM kit, some cool art, or just a session playlist.
Choose and make at least one:

  • SIDE A, Adventure. A new project, or old work repurposed for a new format. A standalone thing that can be played as-is.
  • SIDE B, Bits and Bobs. Assets, props, hacks, tools, etc. A broader umbrella goal, but the final result can be of lighter scope.

You can use any existing SRD and licensed art with proper credit.
You may charge for your work, or make it free, it's up to you.
