How would you like to make a game based on authentic historical maps? Cartographia Game Jam is focused on historical games. You will get access to digitized historical maps, which you can freely use to create a game in 48 hours. 

Maps have endless possibilities in games from navigation aids to game graphics to map-building and more. They can depict completely fictional worlds or be based on real-world open map data. 

Historical maps from the collections of The National Archives of Finland from the 17th century onwards will be available to jammers to use freely in their games. Join our jam and bring historical maps alive! 

• Your game must be somehow connected to historical maps but you choose how - as inspiration, as game assets, as part of game mechanics...
• You can use any game engine you choose. 
• You can use existing game assets as long as you have permission to use them.
• Finished games need to be uploaded to this site.
• All submitted games will voted on by the participants. The games will also be rated by a panel of judges. Winners will be published on this site.

Participation is free

Participation in the jam is free. You are expected to cover your own food and drinks, though there will be some snacks available on site. 

Team

Participants will be guided to form teams at the event. You can also register with a team you have formed beforehand.

Cartographia Game Jam is arranged at the historical location of the National Archives of Finland in Helsinki (Rauhankatu 17). You can experience a whole weekend in the archives!
