Hello everyone! Welcome to the 2024 Pre-Capstone Jam.
This is a 3-week long, casual game jam open to all students who will be participating in in the Game Studio Capstone this coming semester.
This event was organized by Milo Duclayan and Joey Clemente, and is not officially affiliated with the school.

The Pre-Capstone jam was made with two main goals in mind: Preparation and Community. This jam is a great chance for you to get prepared for your transition back into capstone at the end of the summer, and to further build any skills that you'd like to hone before the semester starts. It's also a great chance for all of us in this graduating class to get to know each other better, and to have fun building games side by side.
As mentioned before, this jam is open to all students who plan to take the game studio capstone next semester. This is a private jam, but you are more than welcome to send the link to anybody who fits that criteria.
This is a team jam. Because one of our main goals is community building, we strongly encourage you to work with other students. It's up to you to build your team, but don't stress it too hard. Your teams should be anywhere from 4 to 8 people, although there's no hard limit, and there should be a range of roles represented. You are allowed to do this jam with your team for capstone, but that is not required. You can be on a team with whoever you choose.
Please choose only one person on your team to be the dedicated submitter! This is the person who will join the jam on itch.io, and the person who will upload the project to itch to submit it. Include the names of the rest of your team on the project page, and add them as admins to the project if you so choose.
This is also a casual jam. There are no winners or prizes, except for being able to add another game to your portfolio. You're also welcome to help multiple teams with their projects, or participate for only part of the jam and not all of it, as long as you are open with your team about your time commitments. Don't leave anyone high and dry!
Also, everyone who wants to participate in the jam should send Milo (@antennasunite on discord) a verb or two that they think would be interesting to build a game around.
Also, join the community discord for the jam! https://discord.gg/MCPMgAJ7pw
For this jam, we're bringing back a classic theme from back in intro to game dev (RIP)/studio 1: verbs! At the start of the jam we'll choose a handful of verbs from the ones submitted by you all, and each team will be encouraged to use as many of those verbs in their game as they can.
You're allowed to use as few as one, or as many as you'd like, but try to keep within this tiny restriction for your game, just to challenge yourselves.
You can use any engine you want to make your game, but we'd recommend using one that you'll be able to learn from for capstone (so probably either Unity or Unreal).
This jam will start officially on July 28th, and will end on August 19th, one week before the semester begins. You can use work that you've created before the jam in your project, but most of the development should happen within this window.
You are allowed to use free and open source assets in your projects.
