Whether you're a black metal fan or not, everyone is welcome to create your own themed videogame.

⸸RULES⸸

· Theme ·
The themes are "Black Metal" and a second theme which will be announced on the first day of the jam. You're free to interpret Black Metal however you want: through music, atmosphere, character design, or something more literal. Both themes must be present in your submission, and how you combine them is entirely up to you.
 
· Any Engine, Any Tool ·
Unity, Godot, Unreal, GameMaker, custom engines, use whatever you like. There are no restrictions on resolution, platform, or technical setup.
 
· Teams Of Any Size ·
Solo devs and teams are both welcome. Find teammates in our Discord if you're going in alone.

· Making Things ·
All music, code and assets must be created by you and your team during the jam period. You can use external assets, but you must have the legal right to use them and give proper credit.
 
· AI art/AI tools ·
AI art, AI code generation and AI tools are not allowed to be used in this jam. This is to encourage creativity and thinking for yourself. If you need assistance, please team up with a human with a matching skillset.

   ⸸A NOTE ON INTERPRETATION⸸

Aside from the rule that both themes must be present, your game does not need to sound like actual black metal music, nor look like a corpse-painted metal album cover.

There are no restrictions on genre, art style or audio, a puzzle game, a platformer, a visual novel, anything goes, as long as the themes come through. If it's not in the rules, feel free to experiment!

• Can I work in a team? YES! Teams of any size are welcome.
• Can I submit more than one game? YES! Just make sure each one follows the rules and both themes.
• Do I need to be a black metal fan to join? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
• What engine or language can I use? Absolutely anything.
• I've never made a game before, can I still join? OF COURSE!
• Is Black Metal a required theme? Yes, both Black Metal and the secondary theme are required.
• Does my game need to sound like actual black metal music? NO. See the "A Note On Interpretation" section above.
• When will the secondary theme be revealed? At the exact moment the jam begins, live in our Discord server, and posted here on the jam page.
• When is the game jam? Jam: February 19th 16:00 - February 26th 16:00. Rating: February 26th 16:00 - March 5th 16:00. UTC+2.
• Can I combine the two themes however I want? YES! How you combine Black Metal and the secondary theme is entirely up to you.
• Do I have to explain how I used the themes? Yes, when submitting your project you'll be asked to briefly explain how you implemented both themes.
• What assets can I use? While it's encouraged to create original assets during the jam, you're welcome to use assets you have the legal right to use, just make sure to credit them.
• Is AI-generated content allowed? NO. All code, art and music must be made by you or your team during the jam period.
• Can I start working on my game before the jam starts? NO. All code, music and final assets must be created within the jam period.
• Can I update my game after the submission deadline? NO. During the rating period the game can not be modified.
• How do I vote on other games? Only participants who submitted a game can rate other entries.
• What do I win? For now, there are no prizes. See the "Prize" section above for sponsorship info.
• Where can I find teammates? Head over to our Discord server, there's a channel dedicated to finding a team.
• What happens if I break the rules? Depending on the severity, your game may be disqualified from ranking or removed from the jam entirely. Repeated offenders may be banned from future editions.
• I still have a question, what do I do? Come hang out and ask in the Discord server.
