What is the Bigfry Dev Jam?

It's no-BS game jam about shipping real, playable games.

The Bigfry Dev Jam is a 10-day, community-driven game jam focused on one thing:
making something playable, intentional, and complete within the scope of a jam.

This is about execution, creativity, and learning how to actually finish a game.

Concept It. Build It. Ship It. Win It.

What is the Theme?

The Theme will be revealed closer to the Dev Jam Start Date!

Setup

  • Join our Discord
  • Form up with a Team in our #LFG channel, or sign up as a solo developer!
  • Decide on a Team Name, create your itch.io page for submission and get ready to create!

Rules

Who Can Join?

  • The Bigfry Dev Jam is an online, digital-only game jam and is open to anyone, anywhere, regardless of experience level or age.
  • You may participate solo or as part of a team. You are only allowed to be a part of one team.
  • While we recommend smaller, more focused teams of 4-5, your teams may be any size, but teams may only submit 1 game to the jam.
  • Only one person per team needs to officially join the jam and submit the game on itch.io. Other team members can be added as contributors on the game page.

You’re here to build, learn, and ship something real. Act accordingly.

Game Compatibility & Submission

  • A GDD (Game Design Document) must be submitted alongside your game. (Link on the itch.io page to a Google Drive) This document does weigh into our 'Theme Interpretation' Ranking. This can be a short write-up, or extensive. We just want to peer inside your design process.
  • Submissions must be digital games uploaded to itch.io.
  • Your game must be playable on Windows PC using, at minimum, a keyboard and mouse.
  • Controller support is welcome, but keyboard and mouse must still function.
  • Your submission must not require users to download extra software from external sources. Any required files (DLLs, dependencies, etc.) must be included with the download.
  • The itch upload limit is 1GB. You can compress your game as a ZIP, RAR, or 7Zip file.

If someone can’t download and play your game with minimal friction, you’re doing it wrong.

Assets

  • You may use pre-existing code, tools, and assets that you have the legal right to use.
  • You may prepare general-purpose setup work in advance (blank projects, engine configs, GitHub repos, itch.io pages).
  • You may not build content ahead of time specifically for this jam.
  • All third-party assets (art, audio, fonts, etc.) must be credited clearly on your itch.io page.

This is a jam, not a speedrun of your unfinished side project.

Content Suitability

  • This jam is not required to be family-friendly.
  • Swearing, violence, horror, and mature themes are allowed.
  • That said, excessive nudity, hateful language, or discriminatory content is not allowed.

Keep it creative, not gross or hostile.

Generative AI

Generative AI may NOT be used to create:

  • Art assets
  • Audio assets
  • Written content for your itch.io page

Games found using generative AI for these purposes will be disqualified

Voting

When the jam ends, a 7-day rating period begins for Submitters Only. During this time:

  • Submissions are locked
  • No new uploads, patches, or versions may be added
  • Do not link to alternate builds or external downloads in your description or comments. Doing so will result in disqualification.
  • If you delete your submission during the rating period, it cannot be restored and will be disqualified.

Once voting ends, the game is yours to update, expand, abandon, or ship however you like.

Legal

  • Anything you make during the Game Jam is your property. You own everything.
  • Any submission to the Bigfry Dev Jam may show up in a Bigfry YouTube video or on the BigfryTV social media channels (X, Instagram, Twitch, Discord or any other Bigfry platform) without your express permission.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify or remove any submission from the competition.

Final Notes

  • This jam is about shipping something playable, not chasing perfection.
  • Respect other developers’ time and effort.
  • If you try to game the system, it will be obvious.

Build smart. Scope hard. Finish your game.
