Warning: This game jam is not for casuals or newbies to the RPG Maker scene. If you wish to participate, know that a higher level of expectations and bars will be set for judging in terms of visual originality and UI creation.

This RPG Maker game jam is going to be an interesting one. Namely that you can make any sort of crossover fanfiction you want. You want certain characters to meet up with others? Let your imagination soar and come up with a game that captures the crossover spirit.

There are a good number of criteria though which will impact the way I judge things. So do keep this in mind.

  1. You must involve characters from any one universe with another. They can be from mine or from other RPG Maker games and only RPG Maker games. They can be OCs mixed in with another world. Just make sure that there is a character from other RPG Maker games. Games from other engines other than RPG Maker don't count, unfortunately. It must also be a character from an existing RPG Maker product. So in development/completed is fine. As long as the product exists in the public eye where I can find them. For example: You cannot crossover your OC with Final Fantasy games/fangames. That just makes it a FF fangame.
  2. You cannot rely on the RTP of any engine (except animations and music/sound effects). I'd like you to use your artistic ability to really pull in something that looks less generic than the usual RPG Maker spiel of Theme6 and Harolds and Erics (as much as we memed on them a lot) and the same RTP maps we see in RPG Maker games. Yes, the bar Is set a lot higher now. That being said, you can use anything that's not from the base RTP (so remixes of the RTP and the like can be used). You can use other resources as well as long as I can see that there aren't many or any RTP elements in it. <This includes but not limited to: The character sprites, the battlers, the battlebacks, the menu, the battle UI and more> Here is a basic guideline for you to follow in terms of how I will see your game in the judging phase:
  3. You also cannot use any of Aekashics' animations/battler packs as your enemies. However, if you retranslate Aekashics characters into your own style or another artist's style, that doesn't count so you can technically use Aekashics but you can't use it directly per se. Who is Aekashics you ask? Here's a link: https://aekashics.itch.io/
  4. You cannot make a horror gameplay based game. That feels a little broad so I'll be more specific. You cannot make a game that's all about the ambiance/scary spooky stuff that doesn't have to do with the next criteria on the list. That being said, horror-themed monsters/characters and the like are okay to implement. You can even put a spin on it. You just can't incorporate the horror elements (dark ambient rooms, creepy mansions, jumpscares, etc.) You can ask more if you want more details on what not to incorporate. (So no Yume Nikki or Ib crossover with Lisa or something.)
  5. Incorporate battles/combat into your game. Now, this is the key component of my criteria. Your game must incorporate battles in a shape or form. Turn-based battles are ideal but if you want to go for an action-based battle or a word-based battle or a puzzle-based battle. Feel free. It just needs to have a fight of sorts. In a way, it is to showcase your capabilities as a developer to make full use of battles And I am willing to forgive unbalancing. However, you will earn more points from me if you are capable of making a battle that is interesting and balanced for me to play.
  6. You cannot skew the line onto one gender. I know that yaoi/yuri/female-oriented/male-oriented games are like a rad representation of something but I'm not really that invested in a waifu/husbando fest. So to make it fair, I ask for at least equal male and female playable characters. Bonus points if you're making non-humans/anthros as well. But if you want to make a human-based game, I'm not against it but I'd be a bit eh about it.
  7. You can only use RPG Maker. [Any engine of the RPG Maker family will do (though arguably 95 and 2000 will be hard for me to play on) but not SRPG or any other engine]

Also obviously because of its nature as a crossover of other properties. You can't make it commercial. That much is obvious. You don't want to pull a copyright issue on anyone.

In regards to permissions:

You must not use characters you do not have the rights to use for the purposes of this jam competition in any way, shape or form. Please ensure that you have the permission to use the characters' properties that you are planning to use for this jam. Should this rule be broken, regardless of your reasoning, you will not be eligible to win the prize and your entry is considered eliminated from this challenge.

In regards to the characters I use for my games, you have the permission to use them within the scope of this gamejam.

Judging will be based on how well you execute your battles, the visual style is strayed as far away from the RTP as much as possible, and what it looks like visually. But I will throw a curveball into the mix in terms of how the judging will work.

The Judging will come on a first-come-first-served basis. Meaning that if your game is already up on itch and I can download it, I will immediately play it and give you my overall thoughts. (Whether you'd like it on DM or publicly is up to you but if I don't have your contact on discord, it's likely I'll give you my thoughts publicly on the comments section.) I will refrain from giving a score if I post it publicly but on DMs I will give a score. The score will not be finalized until the game submission period has ended, so you may polish up the game as much as you like.

Now, I would feel bad if you just came out of this way to work on my jam without some prizes to go along with it. So let me give you my prize list. I can't give out too much since I don't have over $300 and people on my server advised me not to give away money too easily. So I'll change up the prices instead.

First Prize: Around $10 Steam Gift Card and any art to be made by Mis_Nova for free. (which usually costs $40+)

Second Prize: Any art to be made by BerryB (which is me) for free. (which usually costs $15+)

That is all for now. Other than that, go nuts. I look forward to seeing what you can do.
