Make role playing games based on the belonging outside belonging framework as described in Dream Askew by Avery Alder. These games center the lives of otherwise marginalized people. Belonging outside belonging games generally utilize no dice rolls and have no game masters.
To make such a game, you will need to be familiar with belonging outside belonging mechanics as described in the "Playing the Dream" section of Dream Askew. Additional guidance for making a belonging outside belonging game can be found in the "Designing New Games." (<--Thank you to Avery Alder for providing this file for jam participants!)
Purchase a pdf of Dream Askew/Dream Apart. (Use the discount code "affordable" if you live in poverty or experience marginalized access to the games community and get 30% off.) If you are unable to afford a copy at any price, contact the jam host directly: donated copies may be available. We will make this jam accessible!
You can find some examples of belonging outside belonging games in this tweet and this forum post. The "sticky" post in the jam forum includes a framework outline and simple templates for setting elements and character playbooks.
This is a non-competitive game jam that encourages participants to make games in keeping with the justice-seeking ethos of Dream Askew and other belonging outside belonging games.
Entries can be of any length and must be submitted by April 14. Any document format is allowed, but please also include a plain text version of the game rules.
Please check this page regularly for updates regarding the jam, and follow #belongingjam.
