Welcome to Game Design and Development at Berkeley's Bear Jams!
This event is a hybrid setting game jam, where all submissions will have a live playthrough!
This means you can either join us in-person on the UC Berkeley campus or participate remotely through our Discord server!
And after the main jam is over, we will have a full Stream Week, where you can see your game played live, ending things off with our Finale on Friday.
Participation is open to everyone, not just Berkeley students! There is no difference between teams with and without students! We're so excited to see all your wonderful games!
In-person details have been finalized! This event will be held at Social Sciences Building (Barrows Hall) Room 126.
Here are the times we'll be hosting the room:
Friday: 6PM - 10PM
Saturday: 10AM - 10PM
Sunday: 10AM - 4PM
Friday 6 PM is the kickoff, so we encourage everyone to try to come out for that!
Sunday 3-4 PM will be a mini-showcase! People can come in-person to try out each others games after submissions have ended.
(Nothing is planned to be held in-person for Stream Week)
To maintain COVID safety, we will require non-UCB students to provide a vaccination card to participate on campus. UCB students will only need their Cal ID to participate. And of course, as the entire campus already demands it, masks are mandatory!

Bear Jams scoring is handled by a panel of judges from the GDD Staff. We judge based off the following 5 categories:
We only judge based off of assets made by the team. It's okay to use assets from other sources, but they MUST be credited. Any game with uncredited work will be disqualified.
Heavy reuse of assets made before the event is highly discouraged and may affect judging scores.
We will NOT being releasing our raw scores. However, feel free to ask judges for feedback on your game!
DISCLAIMER: Unlike previous Bear Jams, there will NOT be any prizing for winners this semester, as least for the being. We will, of course, update this page should that change.
Submission Deadline: Sunday, 11/7 @ 3 PM PST
Any ONE of the follow submission formats are acceptable:
1) A WebGL Build (or any build that can be played online on the itch page)
2) A Windows Build
3) A Mac Build
However, while not necessary, we’d appreciate it if you submit WebGL or Windows (for ease of judging).
