Battle Jam is a game jam hosted by the AGON RPG discord community.
Learn more about the AGON RPG and associated playsets at agon-rpg.com.
If you haven't read or played AGON yet, we'd recommend buying a copy and getting familiar - but it's not a pre-requisite to participate! If you have questions head to the Discord and post in the #general or #hack-talk-main channels.
This jam runs through the entire month of August, 2022. There is no voting, judging or winners in this jam.
The theme of this jam is "Battle". You are encouraged to interpret that theme as loosely as you wish.
Some important guidelines for your submissions:
"Battle" is the theme of this Jam - it is also a distinct phase of play in AGON and its playsets. It's composed of a string of connected contests with a specific narrative purpose. It provides stakes, consequences, and resolution in an epic finale that decides the ultimate fate of the Island AGON. Learn more on page 32 of AGON.
Consider what different types of Battles might exist on different islands. How else can you use the concept of connected contests? What other kinds of finales or resolutions could a tweaked battle system tell in AGON or another playset?

Submissions can be simple text or spreadsheet documents - Google docs, Word, or even .txt files.
For higher fidelity PDF submissions we recommend using Affinity Publisher.
Thoughtful representation
If you're interested in a making a submission that represents any real world belief system or culture then make sure you do your homework. Starting on page 148 of the AGON core rulebook is a fantastic section on how the creators approached thoughtful representation of epic Greek Myth. These articles also outline thoughtful approaches to religious representation in TTRPGS and some best practices for gaming in historical settings.
AGON structures its sessions in self-contained "Islands". You can find a list of them in the back of the AGON RPG book. @sdunnewold has created additional islands. Follow the structure and layout of these existing islands to create your own!
Inside of each playset you can find suggestions or examples of how the playset approaches the concept of "islands" (adventures). Feel free to make an adventure module for an existing playset! Just make sure you point out which playset your adventure is intended for.
If an island or adventure doesn't interest you, consider one of the following:

An alternate mythology or belief system using the blank playerkit
In the publicly available AGON player-kit you'll find a player sheet with references to the mythic Pantheon removed. Use this as a template for player sheets that revolve around an alternate mythology or belief system, fictional or real-world. Remember the resources above if you're interested in representing a culture that isn't your own. You can also include supplemental rules to make it work for your mythology.
A completely new playset with a unique premise for the Paragon system
AGON allows for the creation of distinct playsets that completely reimagine the core premise of the game. This may turn out to be a complex option for your submission; but it doesn't have to be! Many playsets are only a few pages long, though some are over 20 pages. Learn more about using the Paragon system here.
