Greetings humans and reptiles alike! Welcome to our third official game jam!
In this event, we shall bestow upon ye the most exquisite opportunity to make a game in just 9 days! Your game must be based on a theme, which will be revealed when the game jam starts. Afterwards, your games will be judged by our judges that have each been picked through a very selective and exclusive process, through which only the most judgemental individuals may pass.
While potential future employers probably won't accept this on your CV, it can be a lot of fun, so give it a shot! Even if you don't think you can make it in time, try anyway! It's a great opportunity to learn a bit about game development, and at the end, you'll have something that you can be proud of.
Theme
The theme of this game jam is "Screw around and find out". Good luck and have fun!
Rules
1. Don't take anything someone else made and present it as your own.
2. Don't include anything that's NSFW or offensive/discriminatory.
3. Your game must support running either on Linux, or in a web browser. Game engines like Unity and Godot support exporting to both of these no matter your OS. Writing your game in a language like JavaScript is also an easy way to get it running in the browser. Languages like Java make it easy to run on any major OS, though not the web. Feel free to ping Tobias if you need help!
4. Finally, when submitting, you will be asked to provide the source code of your game. This is to avoid people submitting malware. If your game runs exclusively in a browser, you may skip it.
5. You may use existing code and assets, though we will have to ask that you don't write anything specifically for the jam before it starts. You can however set up your project, make a GitHub repo, set up an Itch profile, etc.
Criteria
1. Originality: To what extent is the game based on an original idea?
2. Fun: How enjoyable is the game to play?
3. Theme: How well does the game adhere to the theme of the jam?
4. Overall: Allows the judge to account for things that aren't covered by the other criteria.
