One month-long Multiplayer Game Jam

Multiplayer games are leading every game chart. Here is your chance to learn and practice with the best.

Global Game Jam®️ and Photon are proud to present the inaugural Back to School Multiplayer Game Jam!

September is back-to-school time for a large portion of the world, so grab your classmates and friends, or meet new people to jam with on the GGJ Discord

Together you will learn how easy it is to add multiplayer features to your games via innovative technology from Photon and make fun, competitive or cooperative multiplayer games in a month-long jam.

Form your teams and register on this form to qualify for prizes and stay up to date with news throughout the jam: https://forms.gle/dvK75JwUK2kg3KYa8

This game jam is a competition for developers, where teams of varying sizes create a game following a set theme within the given time period.

A panel of game industry veterans will review games that make it to the final round of judging.

Note that a 1-3 minute gameplay video or trailer is required when you submit your game to be used for final presentations and highlights from the jam.

💡To help you in kickstarting your Multiplayer game with Photon products, we created a landing page with most of our samples.  While Photon Fusion is already Free, we require you to fill out the Quantum form for the Multiplayer Game Jam to receive Free Quantum access for the length of the jam.

Where?

The jam will take place on the Global Game Jam Discord. Join now and meet other jammers and start sharing ideas.

To help you, we will also take you on multiple video streams to cover all the ins and out of Multiplayer game development and Photon.

Curious about any aspect of the Multiplayer Game Jam (MPGJ) taking place from the 16 September until the 16 October 2022? Check here to see if your question(s) can be answered!

Q: Who can participate in the MPGJ?

A: Anyone and everyone! We welcome participants from around the world at any game development skill level.

Q: Where does the MPGJ take place?

A:  The jam will mainly take place on the GGJ Discord Server where you can form your own teams and jam locally together or online, depending on your preference. There may be some local in-person sites forming as well; check the GGJ Discord for more information.

Q: Do I need to participate as part of a team?

A: No, this event is open to individual developers as well as teams. We strongly encourage participating in a team for all kinds of good reasons, but solo developers are welcome too. Please register yourself and your team members here if you have any: https://forms.gle/dvK75JwUK2kg3KYa8

Q: How can I find team members to work with?

A: Participants looking for a team can join our discord, go to the #role-assignment channel and add the "Jammer" role, then go to the #mpgj-lfg-recruit-me channel, introduce yourself and add your name to the pinned Google Sheet or go to that sheet to find others who are looking for team members to work with.

Q: When is the deadline for registration?

A: We would prefer for everyone to be registered by 16 September so we have a good idea of how many people/teams are participating. But registration is open during the jam as well, so you can register after 16 September as well.

Q: When does the jam start and end?

A: The MPGJ officially starts on 16 September and will conclude on 16 October. All games must be submitted by 12 pm US Pacific time on 16 October.

Q: When will the theme be revealed?

A: The theme will be released prior to the start of the jam.

Q: How will the winning team be selected?
A: A judging panel comprised of representatives of the GGJ, Photon, subject matter experts, and regional representatives will make the determination based on a judging rubric that accounts for the overall game design, best use of the theme, visual design, and technical skill.

Q: When will the winning team be announced?

A: The final team that is selected by the judging panel will be announced on 19 November 2022.

Q: What types of games are accepted?

A: All types, PC, console, mobile, tabletop, CCG, escape room, VR/AR. If you make a non-digital game, just be sure to upload pictures and a PDF with instructions on how to print out/make the game pieces and how to play the game or, ideally a video of a playthrough of the game.
