Welcome to Always Learning Jam #0!

I wanted to start this 7 day challenge as a way for us to build games, learn new things, and just get better at what we do. As long as you are always learning, you belong here!

The Goal

Do not worry about making a masterpiece. Just focus on one thing you want to learn (like "how to make a character jump" or "using a new art style") and try to finish a playable game by the deadline.
Theme will be announced at the start of the jam.

How I would like this to work:

1. The Learning Goal
I added a specific section to the upload page for your Learning Log. This is the most important part of your submission! Use that field to tell us:

  • Your Specific Goal: What was the one thing you set out to learn or improve this week?
  • The Learning: What is one thing you know now that you did not know 7 days ago?

2. Group Up!
You do not have to go it alone. Working with others is a huge skill in itself. I encourage you to team up to practice communication and collaborating on a project. No limit on team size!

3. The Community
We have the Community Board enabled here on itch, and I set up a Discord https://discord.gg/szcxt7xKRe for us to hang out in. Use these to share progress, ask for help, or find teammates.

4. Feedback and Ratings
Even though we have ratings, this is a learning process, not a competition. If you see a game you love, the most important thing you can do is write a few lines of feedback.

Feedback Template:

  • The Good: What was your favorite part or what worked really well?
  • The Challenge: Did you find any bugs or parts that were confusing?
  • The Next Step: One thing the dev could try to learn or add next.

How We Are Rating

Since we are all here to grow, do not worry about being judged. We are just using these stars to high five each other for the hard work:

  • Learning: The big focus! Check their Learning Log to see if they tackled their goal.
  • Community Spirit: For the social stars! Were they active in Discord or being helpful?
  • Feel: Does it have a cool vibe? Even with simple shapes, does it feel solid?
  • Completion: Did they get the game to actually run with a start and an end?

The Rules

Any Engine Allowed
Unity, Godot, Unreal, GameMaker, or your own custom tools are all welcome.

Start When the Jam Starts
Please do not start early. The goal is to see what you can build within the 7 day window.

No AI Generation
Do not use AI for code, art, or music. We want to see what YOU can create!

Solo or Teams
Work alone or with a group of any size. No limits!

Credit Your Assets
Art packs and tutorials are fine, just give proper credit. Focus on doing as much as you can yourself!

Keep it Clean
No offensive content or any type of hate speech. Let us keep it a welcoming place for everyone.
