Theme: Rock and Roll

Welcome to the Athena Game Jam for 2025! This jam is a follow-up to the massively successful event from 2024 that saw new games created over five days.

Teesside University is known for its cutting-edge games programs, and its graduates have gone on to work for some of the biggest names in the industry. We're excited to say that a number of those industry partners are supporting the Athena Game Jam by means of mentoring, support, and prizes!

This Game Jam is a unique opportunity for students, alumni, and game developers of all levels to come together and create something special. Participants will have access to cutting-edge game development tools, as well as expert advice and guidance from local industry and Teesside University staff.

Itinerary

  • Tuesday, April 22nd: 10am Start in OL1. Theme Reveal. Team Building and Idea Research
  • Wednesday, April 23rd: Idea Planning, Core Mechanics, Implementation, 
  • Thursday, April 24th: Alpha Playable (Core Mechanics), Bug Fixing, Playtesting, and Progress Review
  • Friday, April 25th: Polishing. Final Playtesting, Gameplay Recording, Release, Awards & Refreshments

Who owns my submitted game?

Your game belongs to you. After all, you made it! We claim no rights or ownership of your game.

What happens if I’m not very good at art?

No problem! All we care about is that you have fun and create a playable game. “Programmer Art” is welcome and encouraged!

Can I use assets from online?

Yes! You can use any existing assets that you have legal rights to, such as open-source or Creative Commons materials.

I can't find a team. What can I do?

Don’t worry! Our Discord has a #find-a-team channel to help you connect with others.

Can I stream my game or development process?

Absolutely! We encourage you to stream your development journey and showcase your final game.
