Aexia is a platform for creating and sharing role-play games with others. The Game Jam is an event to bring some members of our community together to collaborate over a week on creating the first role-plays to be run in Aexia.

Ideally, after the Game Jam is over, we will all have a few different RP games to play in Aexia during (but not exclusively) our regular Friday RPs, hosted weekly in Aexia’s Discord server.

This game jam is an event that kicks off role-play in Aexia. We want to show off what we’ve built and what it can do in the hands of a few enthusiasts over a week. After this game jam is over, our regular Friday RPs will turn into Aexia Role Plays instead.

We want to grow and learn together while creating fun VR role-plays within Aexia. Join us in crafting unique role-plays that go beyond the constraints of the real world. The Game Jam is an opportunity for you to work with like-minded enthusiasts to craft a unique experience while also helping Aexia to improve as a platform for VR role-play.

Create and Collaborate as Teams

During the event, you'll have the chance to work together as some of the first people to design VR RP games inside of Aexia. We welcome beginner and experienced creators to add their enthusiasm and creativity to this pioneering event. No programming skills are required!

Team Formation and Size

• 2 - 3 people per team
• At least one GM per team
• Players will form teams (come with friends or get randomly assigned)

Theme

Work with your team to create a VR roleplaying game with Cyberpunk, SciFi, City or Fantasy theme (basic assets available in Aexia’s closed beta) 

Constraints

• 1-shot roleplaying games only
• No heavy mechanic games (Games should lean toward improv/role-play, not crunchy game mechanics)
• Games should include a maximum of 10 players + 1 GM at a given session
• Games should last around 2 - 3 hours including pre-session orientation
• All games must work with Aexia’s existing closed Beta features

Prizes and Recognition

Participation comes with its own set of rewards! We have arranged a series of rewards and giveaways throughout the event, including:

• The best game(s) will be selected to run during our weekly Friday RP’s in the Aexia Discord Server

The winning team receives a unique honour - a custom digital Discord badge exclusive to the Game Jam victors. This badge serves as a token of recognition within the Aexia community, representing your innovative contribution to the VR RP universe;

Judging Criteria

• Best overall player experience
• Setting and background (How creative was the setting? How did it captivate the players? Did it spark any emotions? How did the background facilitate interesting characterization)
• Game mechanics (How well do the game mechanics work within Aexia? How long does it take to start the game? Does it require too much pre-session prep?)
• Documentation clarity (How easy is it to understand? Can other GMs pick up the game and play it with other groups? Can players easily understand and follow the rules?)

• Morning check-in (“stand up”) - 9 am PST
  • Aexia team is available on Discord for the teams that want to talk about their progress in a stand-up style meeting (what I’ve worked on, what I am planning to work on, where I am blocked)
• Working Time (Suggested level design locked and playtesting)
• Evening check-in (“stand up”) - 6 pm PST

FRIDAY - August 18th

• Suggested time for preparing assets for submission - 9 am to 5 pm PST
  • Game documentation (written content about the game)
  • 5-slide presentation (5 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A)
  • Final build for playtesting (Sharing 4-digit code)
• Game Submission - 4 pm PST
• Closing Session - 5 - 6:30 pm PST
  • Go over playtesting and judging process (Games will be playtested and judged throughout the week and the winning team will be announced the following Friday around 5 pm PST.)
  • Game Slide Presentation (5 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A)

FAQ:

WHY NOT HAVE THE GAME JAM OVER A WEEKEND?

We decided to extend the Game Jam duration from a weekend to a whole week in order to accommodate the people with busier schedules. Even though the Game Jam will span over a whole week, the total amount of work doesn’t increase and is estimated not to take more than 2 full-time work days to be completed.
