Adroit 2024 Game Jam Details
These details may change slightly as we get closer to go-time. However, you can generally expect the following:
- ⏲️ Time: The jam will take place in the Reflector of Townsend Hall from March 8-10. Doors will open at 4:00p, and the Jam will officially start at 5:00p. You must sign in at the front desk when joining. The Reflector will be available until 9p. (You are welcome to keep working on the game late into the night remotely, but we must kick everyone out of the building at this time.) Doors will open from 9a-9p the following Saturday, and 9a again that Sunday. By Sunday at 5p, you must have your game uploaded to Itch. (Itch page TBA.) You must then present your game to the judges. Your pitch should be no longer than 5 minutes. See extended timeline below.
- 🎉 Theme: The theme of the game jam and any accompanying parameters is secret and will be announced after the official start time.
- ☎️ Communication: A dedicated Discord server will be shared 1-2 weeks prior to the jam.
- 🖥️ Computers: You will want to bring your own computers. We have access to generic desktop computers in the Reflector that MU-students can log into, but they are low-performance and may require a lot of hoops to go through if you're looking to install software. We will need to know in advance by 2/28 exactly what you're looking for. We highly recommend bringing your own computer—even if it means lugging in a desktop every day.
- 🍕 Food: Food will be provided throughout.
- 🧑💻Coaches: Coaches and volunteers from Adroit Studios or partnering organizations will be around to assist.
- 🎁 Prizes: Prizes include $1000 for first place with other prizes to be announced.
- 🧑⚖️ Judges: Three judges will evaluate the games on design (concept, scope, usability), development (bugs/crashes, efficiency, and difficulty), and art (visual appeal, UI design, sound quality).
- 🧑🎓Participants: Participants will be MU students as well as the Columbia community at large (e.g., Columbia College students, local developers, etc.)
- ♥️ Team size: There is no hard minimum or maximum. We recommend teams no larger than 6. If you’re team is on the smaller side (e.g., only two people), you may be merged with participants who signed up as individuals to create a team of four.
- 🎲 Tabletop games: Although we haven’t done tabletop games in the past, we may allow paper prototype submissions and demonstrations or tabletop simulators. (Be sure to check with Alex Urban [urbanac@umsystem.edu] if you would like to go this route.)
