Welcome to the Adaptation Jam!

The aim of this jam is to make a game inspired by your favorite piece of media, whether that be a movie, board game, book, TV show, or even another video game!

The possibilities are endless—you could make an RPG based on your favorite fantasy book, an FPS based on your favorite action movie, or remake your favorite 3D platformer as a 2D platformer.

You can adapt a specific plot point, level, scene, etc. (just avoid using exact likeness for copyright purposes), or simply make your own game set in the world of a pre-existing piece of media.

Rules

• You can use any pre-existing piece of media for your inspiration/adaptation
• You can adapt this piece of media as strictly or loosely as you like
• You will have one week (now 8 days!) to create your game (12:00 AM CST on Tuesday April 8th through Wednesday April 16th)
• Games can be made solo or with a team
• Any engine and premade assets are allowed, but please refrain from using AI
• IMPORTANT! Since we are taking inspiration from pre-existing media, please be careful to avoid using identical names, assets, art. music, dialogue etc. to avoid copyright infringement
• Please provide a spoiler warning if your game spoils the source material in any way
• You can make your game for any platform but it is highly recommended to provide a browser version

Voting

The voting period will last one week starting from the end of the jam (Wednesday April 156th through Wednesday April 23nd)

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

• Theme (how well you adapt/take inspiration from your source material)
• Fun (how enjoyable the game is to play)
• Presentation (how appealing you find the art, animation, music, sfx, ui, etc)

Despite being ranked, this is still a chill, beginner-friendly jam with no prizes—the goal is to have fun making a game inspired by another piece of media.
