Ugyanez igaz a visualra is!
We’re really happy about the feedback, and that several of you are already looking forward to the next events!
The next GémDzsem challenge is to develop a point-and-click game, with the focus—naturally—on the story built around it!
There are no restrictions on the techniques you use, the visual style, or the topic of the story. That said, there are a few important things we need to clarify:
The game’s theme and visual style must not offend any group of people or any religious community.
The game should stay within the 14+ (maximum 16+) age rating.
These games are interesting when the story is good, the atmosphere is strong, and there’s something to think about. It’s especially great if there are surprises!
Minimize mini-games! Of course, logic problems often appear in this genre, but they should be integrated into the game itself. In the evaluation, it will be a disadvantage if a generic, unnecessary “template” mini-game appears without good reason.
It’s worth paying attention to ergonomic mouse use, the inventory system, item combinations, and the consistency of dialogues. These are not mandatory elements, but they usually appear in games of this style.
The goal is NOT to create a polished, release-ready product in one and a half hours, but rather a solid concept with short, enjoyable gameplay!
Do not have the story written by AI! We want to see your creativity!
Adaptations and paraphrases are allowed, so you can take inspiration from short stories, books, music, and films. However, in the case of an adaptation, it should only be a starting point. For example: we accept a new Star Wars story, but we do not accept “turning an existing story into a playable version.” It’s also important that you introduce some innovation in the visuals as well (see Star Wars: Visions).
We created GémDzsem so that students from the two institutes (MDI and MatInf) work together. The heads of the institutes also emphasized to us that this should be an expectation. So the minimum team size is 2 people, and you must have at least 1 person from each side.
On the development side, “vibe coding” is very popular these days, and it’s basically impossible to verify whether someone used a coding LLM. We ask you to use it responsibly and with common sense. We’re not interested in what ChatGPT or Grok can do—we’re interested in what you can create!
The same applies to visuals. Of course you can use AI to brainstorm or get basic starting points, but only minimally.
You may generate audio 100% with AI, but of course the best option would be to bring in someone who can create it separately!
Just for fun and experience!
