Celebrate Unreal Engine's 4.20 milestone by creating a new experience.

Unreal Engine 4 has been out for over 4 years, and July 2018 saw the 20th large update to the engine. Read the patch notes here to get to grips with the new features; you may want to make use of them for this celebratory jam!

The theme is "new experience". Make something that tingles the senses and shares something new with your players. The aim isn't to focus on mechanics, but to experiment with all aspects of games that often get set aside in a jam. Unreal is a beautiful engine - show that off!

Have the freedom to delve into your mind by working solo, or get together with friends and work as a team. There are no limits to team size with UE 4.20. This is a chance to make something unique with the latest tools of our favourite engine;  you don't need to get hung up on competition.

There are four categories in UE 4.20, all equally special:

  • Dank - The overall tone and experience of playing your game was what captivated your players. The visuals, sound and gameplay all worked together to create something better than the sum of its parts.
  • Trip - Explosions of colour;  expansive alien landscapes; new ways of looking at familiar objects. The visuals of your game  showed your players what is possible to be seen.
  • Chill - Sonic ripples; musical echoes; floating along a bed of frequencies. The sound of your game resonated with the ears of your players.
  • Wave - Fluid movements; freedom to explore; unfiltered communication. The gameplay of your entry had your players doing something with a fresh perspective.

The categories are a way to highlight the achievements of each submitted game. Encourage your fellow developers and leave constructive comments. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation, we're all friends here and can learn something from each other!

Voting is open to the public, so feel free to use #UE420  to share your game with a larger audience.

Games must be made with Unreal Engine version 4.20.
