If you've been thinking about creating a Reacting game but haven't been sure where to start, now is the time to put your ideas on (digital) paper! Inspired by the conversations at this year's Game Development Conference (GDC), we're hosting a month-long game jam with prizes. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced developer, we encourage you to join us and bring your game ideas to life. We'll be accepting responses until August 15th for any games that can be played in a one session Microgame. The rest is up to you!

Some ideas about microgame design: https://turbogeek.itch.io/suggestions-and-ideas-for-designing-a-microgame

Don’t worry about making it perfect!  This is all about getting a start, having fun with it, and sharing your ideas.

Plan big, start small!

What is a Reacting to the Past Microgame?

A Reacting game is an interactive educational game that uses the "Reacting to the Past" framework. This framework is flexible but at its core involves role-playing games set in historical contexts, where players engage with primary texts and debate to navigate complex scenarios.

Microgames are games that can be played in a single 60-minute session.  Longer games will be rejected.

What are the prizes and judging criteria?

Submissions will be judged on a variety of factors including: innovation, playability, and educational value.

First Place: A free year of membership to the Reacting Consortium.

Second Place: Discounted registration for next year's Game Development Conference (GDC)

After the game jam, selected games will be showcased on our website, where there will be opportunities for further development and collaboration.
