CSGC Game Assets

GAME ASSESTS SUBMISSION OVERVIEW

Games are made up of hundreds of assets and it takes many individuals to make each and every asset for a game. The Game Assets competition provides an opportunity for showcasing individual assets that make up a game and focuses on games that are in the early stages of development.

Individuals (no team submissions) can enter in one of three Game Assets categories:

  • Conceptual Art - sample game related artwork (2D/3D) and/or game story
  • Animations - 30 second demo of game world fly through or character animation (2D or 3D)
  • Scoring & Sound Design - samples of original sound/music tracks of one to two minutes in length

Participants in the game assets can enter any or all of the categories. If you have worked on content related to games and gaming we invite you to take part in this competition.

Submission Details

  • All individuals must pre-register for this event. Registration opens in February.
  • All submissions must be Original Works developed/designed by the game design team.
    • Copyrighted images, audio, footage and characters can not be used. (i.e. Celebrity photos, movie screen grabs, drawings of copyrighted logos, characters, etc. and so forth).
    • Creative Commons / Licensed  external , publicly available , libraries (For example Java libraries or free assets from the Unity Asset store) can be used.
  • All submissions must be appropriate for all viewing ages
    • MUST NOT contain any offensive language, graphic content, and suggestive themes (ex. sex, drugs and alcohol).
  • All submissions must include a  Game Pitch (Youtube video)
  • All game asset submissions must be submitted by April 1, 2022
    • Animation and Sound Design submissions are to be submitted as Youtube video [In addition to the Game Proposal video]
    • Conceptual art submissions are submitted as downloadable image files

Game Proposals (3 to 5 MINUTE video)

All submissions must include a Game Proposal (Youtube video).
The game proposals should include the following information

  • Premise - overview of the game or idea
  • Target Market - describe demographics and game genre. (Remember that not everyone will not play your game)
  • Unique Feature - unique selling point
  • Overview - provide short samples of work (images of artwork, clips of animation, sound clips of audio)
  • Development Team - who are the people who built this game and their roles
  • Project Summary - Provide a summary of your submission

Game Pitch videos must be submitted via a public Youtube link 

  • Videos visibility settings must be set to public for viewing
  • When uploading the Youtube video (under details , tags) you must include the tag #CSGC2022

These videos will be aired throughout the day of competition on the main hall projector and CSGC will also reserve the right to publicly share these videos across our social channels.

Game Asset Category Submissions

Submission details for each of the categories are listed below.

Game Conceptual Art

  • Each entry must include minimum of three images related to various aspects of game design, such as character sheets, environmental drawings or renderings, storyboard art, etc.
    • All art submissions must be submitted digitally
    • Physical art pieces may be displayed upon day of the competition

Game Animations

  • Each submission must include a looped animated short (YouTube Video) between (30 seconds - 3 minutes) demonstrating an aspect of gameplay. This can be a character animation, environment fly-through, etc.
  • Submissions can be either 2D or 3D
  • Entrants shall bring a single set-up for presenting their submission (computer monitor or television)

Scoring & Sound Design

  • Each entry must include minimum of three original sound/music tracks of 1-2 minutes in length.
  • Entrants can submit a maximum of 10 submission
  • The majority of the tracks must be musically and sonically designed to loop effectively and may include several layers or intensity levels
  • Entrants shall bring a single set-up for presenting their submission (playback device and speakers)

Eligibility

The contest is open internationally to the following peer groups:

  • Elementary ** (grades 2nd to 5th)
  • Middle School ** (grades 6th to 8th)
  • High School (grades 9th to 12th)
  • Post Secondary (College or Tech School)
  • Indie Professional / Hobbyist (Adults not participating as a student)

** Participants under the age of 13 require a legal guardian or instructor to register with itch.io and submit on their behalf. When submitting any CSGC competition (jam) entrants are asked to provide the name of submission creator.

Submission Requirements

  • Contest is open to individual submissions only.
  • The deadline to register and submit for all competitions is April 1, 2022

Exhibition

Competitors may choose to exhibit their submission in person at CSGC exhibition day on April 16, 2022 at the University of Tulsa.

Those who plan to exhibit at the event, must abide by the following rules:

  • Exhibitor space is granted only to those that properly request it on the submission form.
  • Competitors may set up their displays the morning of exhibition day (April 16) between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Competitors must have their booth ready by 10:00 a.m. for the start of the event
  • Competitors must bring their own equipment for one functional set-up of the game, art or other. This includes any hardware, output devices, cables, mounts, boards, etc.
  • Competitors must have someone at their display at all times
  • Competitors are asked to dismantle starting after 4:00 p.m. and must clear the room of their equipment by 5:00 pm.

Awards and Judging

  1. Judges will review all submissions prior to the day of competition. All submissions must be submitted by April 1, 2022
  2. All awards are at the discretion of our judges, including a decision to not award a prize to any competition/category/ or peer group. The judges’ decisions are final
    • Just because you are the only entry in a competition does not guarantee a win. The quality of work must meet a certain ranking determined by our CSGC Judges.
    • Judges also have the discretion to move an entry to a different competition if they feel it is better suited for that competition. Note that is not done arbitrarily, it usually is to give the competitor a better chance at winning an award. (e.g. You entered the concept art for game assets, but they felt it was more appropriate for the digital art show.
  3. Entries may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges for use of any inappropriate content, themes or failure to meet submission requirements.
  4. Winners will be announced during our awards ceremony held on the at 5:00 pm Saturday April 16, 2022.
    • Awards ceremony will take place virtually and in-person.
    • All winners will be notified via email as to their placement and how to receive their award.

CSGC representatives reserves the rights to change, modify, and or update the rules, regulations, and guidelines at anytime. These will be subject to change at anytime without notification.
