🕹️ Private Game Jam: Rules & Structure

Theme

One Rule Changes Everything

🎯 Overview

A friendly 72-hour game jam designed to challenge creativity, promote learning, and just have a great time building games with friends. Each participant gets 72 hours of development time, which they can spend across 7 days.

📅 Jam Duration

  • Start Date: May 26th 2025 at 8:00 PM

  • End Date: June 2nd 2025 at 20:00

  • Each developer gets 72 hours total to use however they want during the jam week.

⏱️ Time Tracking Rules

  • You are responsible for tracking your own hours. Be honest — it’s a chill jam, not a competition.

  • You can break up your hours however you like (e.g., 4 hours one night, 10 hours on the weekend).

  • Time only counts when you're actively working on your game (coding, designing, creating art/sfx, etc).

🖥️ Team Size

  • Solo or teams up to 2 (to keep things manageable and fair).

  • If in teams, each member gets 72 hours — but track individual time spent.

🎨 Theme

  • The theme will be revealed at the start of the jam.

  • Your game must be inspired by or related to the theme, but loose interpretation is totally fine.

  • You may combine the theme with any mechanics, genres, or styles you like.

✅ What’s Allowed

  • You may use open source assets, your own old code/assets, or any game engine/tool you prefer - please give the asset owners credits!.

  • Pre-made frameworks or game templates are okay, but the core of your game should be created during the jam.

❌ What’s Not Allowed

  • No AI-generated game content unless you're customizing or building on top of it.

  • Don’t go over the 72-hour limit.

  • Don’t start actual development before the jam begins (brainstorming ideas is okay).

🧪 Judging/Feedback

  • No winners or losers — just a community showcase.

  • We’ll all meet up (online or IRL) to show off the games, share stories, and offer feedback.

  • Everyone is encouraged to talk about what went well, what was hard, and what they learned.
