Weird Locations, part 35!

Back again for the next two locations!

Finishing off the sky locations!

First up, location number 69 (nice), The Floating Island.

This location was primarily inspired by the floating Islands in the game Terraria.

Finding and getting to those islands was always one of my favorite parts of that game.

Originally this was going to be two different locations.

A floating rock and a floating ball of water. But I couldn't think of enough ideas for the later.

So they were merged. This is also one of the "Weird Ruin" locations.

It always has a ruin inside it, but with the treasure table changed.

Instead of most of the treasure, there is Atlassian ore.

Named for the Greek Titan who holds up the sky.

This substance lets you make lighter weight metal tools armor and weapons.

Maybe this is why the islands float? Who knows.

The next fun thing I added to this location is what they call "Island syndrome".

Small things get bigger due to less predators,

and large things get small due to less food. In real life this turned pigeons into Dodos,

and gave us Dwarf Mammoths.

The last notable thing about this location is the inheritance.

The Irikis can be found here, presumably they flew onto the rocks.

Or maybe the islands were once part of the Orichalc islands before floating away.

Hard to say. These islands are also homes to Rocs,

making them a good source of Roc Feathers for assorted wonder working.

All in all, a unique location with a lot of ricks and rewards!

Next up, the final sky location, The Castle of Cloud.

Very obviously inspired by the English fairy tale Jack and the Bean Stalk.

The Bean Stalk already made its debut in the previous book.

Who knows, someone might play Jack!

But yes, this location is a Giant themed Ruin, inhabited by an ancient Giant.

The Storm King, along with his Giant Goose.

I gave them a similar back story to Ymir and the primordial cow from Norse myth.

In keeping with the theme, there is Golden Eggs here, along with assorted Unique Items.

The beans of height, of course, along with a magical instrument, and a flying ship.

Lastly, all the "Storm" themed creatures are here, plus a new one.

The Cloud Castle Cold Bloods. Beings healed by lightning.

Making them one of five creatures to be healed by a Damage type they can do.

A unique kind of challenge based on familiar ideas!
