So, for those of you who didn't know, Patreon has shut down my page and with it 90% of my income.
"But why?" I hear you ask, through the microphones I've secretly placed in your home. Is it because I violated the law, or engaged in depraved acts beyond all ethical boundaries? Did I push the limits of human decency too far? What vile and disgusting act could I have possibly committed that justifies having my game and my income destroyed?
I put Alice in the game.
Yes, that's it. Alice exists. Patreon's new policy is, and I quote: "We do not allow the presence of underage characters in Adult/18+ content." Which means no Alice, no Lil' Roxy and those kids of yours? Definitely not. The fact that none of them are sexualized in any way is irrelevant. They exist, therefore the game is no longer allowed on Patreon.
So the page is completely done, finished, gone forever?
Well... I've been told that if I wait two months I can remake the game completely and submit it to the Trust and Safety Team for review and possible acceptance as a brand new page and account. But the kids would have to be gone. Erased from the game and the lore completely. Chloe will no longer have a little sister, Lil' Roxy will be unmade, and all your kids will be erased from history. If I want to get back onto Patreon I have to eviscerate CK.
I won't do that. I refuse.
Patreon will keep drawing new lines, keep shifting the goalposts, keep trying to squeeze adult creators off their site until all that's left is a shiny, sterile, puritanical paradise. They don't want me to be a part of that and, frankly, neither do I.
I could try moving everyone over to SubScribestar, but that has traditionally not done well. Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? Not very.
So what's the solution? A roll of the dice. A gamble.
I'm bringing Corrupted Kingdoms to Steam.
Now, Steam won't allow modded Koikatsu (the engine I'm using for renders) on its storefront, so that means I need to remake all of the graphical assets. This is going to alienate and irritate a lot of people, I know, but I don't see another path here. Without the Patreon income I only have a few months before my resources run out. Some people won't like the new graphical style, some won't ever read this and will think I abandoned the old version for a chance at a bigger profit on Steam, and some people simply don't like Corrupted Kingdoms.
The pitfalls are many. Steam may not allow the game on the store, or it may be review-bombed, or people may simply not buy it, to name just a few.
But I have to do it.
Is it a risk? Absolutely. But it's this or throwing Alice and the kids in the dumpster, and I won't do that. Not for any amount of money. Patreon will never be satisfied. So even if this bankrupts me, I'm finishing this story, and I'm finishing it right.
Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?

As a big fan of the game (i don't play Yu-Gi-Oh duel links any more so now CK is top 2 Below Master duel) no matter what you'll do, i'll always keep CK in my phone, computer (and very well hide in another computers)

I was wondering why your profile for me was blurred out, then I came here. So I'll be jumping over to Subscribestar for ya Arc. You'd be surprised that a few creators I follow have done the same thing.
If I may, I'd recommend pushing for Subscribestar. I'm not a dev so I don't know much about this, but I think having to remake basically everything in a new engine for steam is a bit too risky.

I'm definitely hoping that enough people can move over to SubscribeStar so that I can finish CK as it started. There's already been a ton of movement over there, so there's actually a chance! Fingers crossed!
I'll be making another announcement tomorrow, talking about SubStar and answering people's most commonly asked questions, but if everyone can spread the word themselves it would be a huge help!
This really sucks, dude. CK was one of the first games that got me into AVNs, and it'll really suck if this game goes down after all of the love and passion you've put into making it. :(

Heads up: Steam has the same inane policy, and might arguably be worse.
Just read the old dev logs from... eh, what's it called now... goodbye eternity? The dev has sold the soul of his game to please the steam censors again and again, turned the non-sexualized minor into a romancable adult to avoid the "no kids in 18+" rule, and still got banned in the end.
Yes, it's a gamble - Goodbye Eternity is the only example anyone has of this apparent policy, though, and yet there's a dozen games like Summer Memories up on Steam. So it would appear that if Steam does have that policy that it's very inconsistently applied.
If enough people migrate across to SubscribeStar then I won't have to worry about remaking the game for Steam, though, so fingers crossed that happens! :)
Steam, subcribestar, patreon none of it matters this game deserves to be made and made the way you intended it because its a diamond and a brilliant story to play

This is unfortunate, but i'm not surprised. Patreon has been doing this shit for awhile now. But I am glad you're not bowing to their demands.
How anyone can think that the kids are anything but wholesome is beyond me. Personally I think the losers at Patreon are projecting a certain something.But that's just my opinion.

I just couldn't bring myself to erase the kids from existence. It didn't seem right, and anyway Patreon would just have found something else to ban me for. A lot of amazing devs got their pages taken down this week and it seems like things will only get worse from here, unfortunately.
On the plus side, it's good business for SubscribeStar and they're awesome, so... fingers crossed it turns into a long-term advantage for developers!
This is one of my favorite VN's, and not just for smut. It's the kind of power epic that I adore, and your story and characters are amazing. It's art, and I hope to see it finished some day.

Patreon sucks, they take and take and take from the creators of many fabulous games just so they can keep their little mini-monopoly going on without having to do any such endeavors such as what you're currently going through. I doubt they will ever be known as a W subscription-based platform until they get their shenanigans and BS rules underway in the correct way. They kinda remind me of discord mods, but way too
securenerve-wracking for awesome and generous people such as yourself who just love to make lore-heavy and story-rich games and experiences.::EDIT:: Forgot that the little buttons at the bottom make typing in weird fonts much easier with emphasis.

Yeah, Patreon has always been problematic for creators... SubscribeStar is miles better, and if everyone can hit the tier goal over there then I can continue CK as usual (though with a lot more creative freedom)!

The fact they did that is so dumb since honestly having the kids is a good thing since they are fun to play with in the daycare even if some people don't ( I don't know if you spent time with them or not since i did that while waiting for a new part of the game) but their a good break from the more mature aspect of the game both with the mothers of them or the crazy war we have

It's okay take your time but if you do it can you make it for the girls if we get to choose which ones return i'm wondering if you let the players choose which girl to get to make it easier to get there favorite ones ( ps my favorite is the minator one it's hard to spell her name without auto correct messing it up ) if not it's fine

Yes, there's a 90% chance that I'll continue using Ren'py to build the game, in which case Android releases will be unaffected :)

Another blow to my heart this year. This is and always will be my favorite game and dev. I will follow you wherever and definitely buy on steam if that's the route you want to go. I saw a couple others I follow get kicked off patreon, breaks my heart people will never be satisfied and try to hurt adult devs. I am rooting for you Arc!

For the devs of Lessons in Love and Lewd Town Adventures, while going SStar-only did put a dent in their revenue compared to Patreon, it worked out at least well enough. Many people prefer Patreon, of course, but if there's no other choice to support you and get early access to updates, I'm sure a lot of them will move over to SStar.
You could possibly also try adding a pixiv fanbox page, I've seen at least one dev of a KK-based game do that.
Sure, Yen as currency might feel weird, but at least they allow some more common payment processor options.
I'd try to keep going via those options as long as possible, since I'd assume replacing all graphics would be a ton of work, only to have Steam possibly reject it.
CK is the game that got me into making KK games myself and still my fav game-with-KK-graphics out there, so I hope you can finish it the way it's meant to be :)
I'll certainly do my very best to keep CK going as it has gone thus far, and the support on SubscribeStar has been incredible! If everyone can help to hit the goal then it's business as usual - though with a lot more creative freedom! :)
I'll also be looking into alternative revenue streams such as Pixiv, for sure. I taught EFL in Tokyo for five years so I'm actually quite comfortable with accepting Yen ;P

Utilizing lewdpatcher.com or something similar is one option, having the game be cleaned up so the platforms accept it with a totally fan made trust us bro patch that restores whatever you are forced to remove. As is keeping Patreon etc up as a tip jar where you aren't supplying anything they don't agree with on their platform, but it still allows people who prefer to use it to give you money if they want to.
Especially when the alternatives require having to switch from Koikatsu to something else and definitely much worse.
Unfortunately Patreon can and will ban you for any content related to your game anywhere on the internet that violates their ToS.
Snats, the dev of Twisted World, had their page taken down this week because Patreon took offense to content hosted on a pirate site! Something Snats has zero control over!
Hopefully enough people migrate over to SubscribeStar that I don't need to follow through on the Steam plan, but sadly Patreon is a closed book as far as CK goes :/
