Huge thanks to everyone who participated! Here are the results:

Grand Champion: Red Snow

Judge's choice awards:

Congratulations to the winners!

Welcome to The Bigmode Game Jam, a two and a half week casual game dev competition. Submissions will be played and judged on stream by Head Judge videogamedunkey. The prizes are small, but the glory is large!

MODE

Interpret “mode” in your own way using any definition of the word, just be sure that it serves as the inspiration for your game in a significant way. When you submit your game, you'll have a field you can use to explain how it relates to the theme to make it easier for voters.

  1. All work done for the game must be during the submission period (11/27 to 12/15).
  2. All games must involve the theme in a meaningful way.
  3. Games must be appropriate for streaming. Nothing that would get DMCA'd or anything else that would violate TOS.
  4. Games must be single player only.
  5. Teams can be no larger than 5.
  6. No AI generated work.
  7. No VR games, judge won't have a headset hooked up.

What engine? Any engine is fine, as long as the game is playable on Windows.

What assets can I use? We strongly encourage you to make new assets for the jam, but any assets you have the rights to use and that don't break the rules are fine (e.g. asset store).

How's judging work? After the submission period ends, voting will open. When voting ends, our team will review games for shenanigans, then the Head Judge will stream them at a later date, where he will be seeing them for the first time. Awards will be handed out during the streams, and a winner will be picked at the end.

Is every game going to be played on stream? We'll try to fit as many games as possible in the streams, but we can't guarantee every submission will be played live.

How's voting work? Voting will help determine which games definitely get played on stream - higher ranked games are more likely to make the cut. (It's not the only factor, and even lower-ranked games will still be played.) Voting will be open to members of teams that submit a game, and voting ends January 1st.

How long will each selected game be played on stream? For a minimum of 10 minutes, but some may be played longer at the judge's discretion.

How many winners? There will be one grand champion, and multiple judge's choice category award winners.

  • Grand prize submission team members will receive a trophy.
  • Judge's choice category award winners will receive certificates of their accomplishments.
  • Must be over 18 or have parents' permission to receive prizes in the mail.
