This jam is now over. It ran from 2019-08-02 07:00:00 to 2019-08-06 07:00:00. View results

This is a casual four day period of game development to close off the summer by making a totally uncalled for simulation of, well, anything.

The Jam is open to all skill levels, even if you've never attempted to make a game before. I've put together a useful guide to tools and resources for getting your first game made here.

You'll have four full days, from August 2nd to August 5th, to make a totally unnecessary  "simulator" about pretty much anything you want. Getting out of bed, drinking glass cleaner,  flying a helicopter, poking a beehive, whatever sounds good to you.

Here's how it's going to work:

  • If you haven't already, make an account on itch.io(duh).
  • Before August 2, brainstorm ideas, chat in our community section, and bring along some friends - working in teams is allowed and encouraged. If you're unsure how to actually make a game take some time to check this out.
  • From August 2 to August 5, put aside time to create your game. Make art, sounds, and gameplay, and make sure to get someone to test it out. Don't dwell on decisions too long and start making as soon as you can, getting a game together can take longer than you think. Nobody's gonna make a masterpiece in four days so have some fun with it. There are no limits on what you can make or what tools you can use here - go wild.
  • Before the jam ends on the 5th(You'll see a timer above), create an itch.io page for your game and come here to submit it.
  • From the 5th to the 11th, it's voting time! Visit the submissions page above and play some other peoples' games. If you participated, you can rate their games' strengths and weaknesses in five different areas - Fun, Sounds, Appearance, Functionality, and Creativity. If a category doesn't apply, you can leave it blank(For example, leave the sounds field empty in a game with no audio)
  • After the ratings period ends, the overall scores earned by your game in each category will be uploaded. The voting is purely for fun and maybe some bragging rights. Don't sweat how your game scores, it's only a way to get some feedback.

A few rules:

  • Please don't start working on your game before the jam begins. It's fine to copy over general-purpose code you've written in the past or general external libraries though.
  • If you need some extra time to finish, no worries- Just submit a blank game page before the deadline and update the page with your game when you're ready.
  • Keep it PG-13
  • You are required to have fun. Not having fun could result in a permanent ban jk
