Hello, Fellow Gamers and Dev Enthusiasts!
Today marks a milestone in my game development journey. I’m excited to announce that I’ve completed and uploaded the final version of “Barbarian’s Last Stand” for the game jam submission. It’s been a journey with its share of hiccups, and while the game isn’t as polished as I’d hoped, the important thing is - I did it!
The limitations of the free version of Construct 3 were one of my biggest challenges. The event limit was quickly reached, leading to tough decisions about feature inclusions. Unfortunately, this meant no room for sound effects, special effects, or music this time. The basic scoring system is in place, but the life system and menu/pause functionality need more work.
However, I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved. The game is playable and engaging (I hope!), showcasing the potential of what it could become. This was my first game jam, and the experience has been truly amazing.
As a supporter of open source, I’m excited to share that “Barbarian’s Last Stand” will be available on GitHub at https://github.com/AndreVarandas/barbarians-last-stand.
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible art provided by talented creators. Special thanks to:
This project has been a phenomenal learning experience, revealing the capabilities and limits of Construct 3. Looking ahead, I might upgrade to a paid subscription to fully realize my vision for “Barbarian’s Last Stand”. I’m also exploring other game engines to find the perfect fit for my creative aspirations.
As I consider the next steps, I warmly invite your feedback on the current version of the game. Your insights and suggestions are invaluable as I think about future improvements and possibly expanding the game’s features.
I’m excited to continue adding more games and participating in more jams. Stay tuned for more adventures in game development!
Warm regards, Vini
