Dev Log #10: CocoCode Jam Completed!

Goooooood morning or afternoon, gents!

I am back after being incredibly focused on a game jam that lasted an entire week. It was tedious and stressful, but most importantly, it was a lot of fun trying to decipher, code, and draw out a lot of my game within such a short amount of time. With such a short time span and literally nothing to do these days with school being out of material to teach us students, I've set myself back to focus a lot more on Godot and its teachings.

Case in point, this game jam.  I'm not saying it was easy or hard. In fact, as this game is already out, i could only suggest and ask if you wish to rate the game and take a look at the game itself in its entirety. I've done a lot of things on here that I never would have understood how to do before, but here we are with achievements and even making a QuickTime event. Regardless, I had a hella lot of fun making this little game, but that means I have to get back to the grind on the other game I was curating.

With that in mind, let's go through what each step ended up with me completing.  It won't be long.

First Day: Brainstorm, begin  on the first minigame.

Second Day: Finish the first minigame and begin on the second.

Third Day: Second minigame and third minigame finished

Fourth Day: 5th minigame worked on, 4th kind of just touched.

Fifth: Polished up all the other scenes to make a smooth transition from one to another.

Sixth: Panic seeing that there is one day left, finished up the 4th minigame. Additionally, I made more changes and a manhunt for music and made my own sfx and art.

Seventh: Watch the ratings and feedback of whatever I just made.

Honestly, with the work I've done, I think I pushed myself really far to create this much content and hopefully fun content to create a nice playing experience for the player.  If you want to check the game out itself, the link is right here, and give it a rating! I  would love to notice any bits of constructive criticism and your opinions.

Anyways, away from that Jam since it's done, what's next for the game Slice of Them?

To be honest, I think I was originally going towards this jam to begin with to improve my ideas of what I can do with the training part of this game.

In short, every training option for the game itself will prove to be some kind of minigame, whether that be a QTE or an auto-runner (Jetpack Joyride type?). Of course, there's more to this, but the ones listed are probably going to be the most challenging for me. Either way, I still find it exciting to redo and reimplement it to fit the style of this game.

Other than that, I think I'll plan to work more on drawing even more enemies, continuing to redo the enemies' script within the actual battle scene, work a little on the training parts, and even include an entire library of objects, giving the museum some actual value.

And I think that sums it all up for what this week's task is going to pertain to.

You can support my growth, provide suggestions, and hopefully help me improve as a game developer entirely.  Or, you could follow me on Reddit. Nothing wrong with that, totally! Or, now you can track a bit of my progress on my youtube channel. This is mainly going to include small videos, including some progress with my coding and re-uploads for my video-dev logs.
