Chi Hang So - Lead Networking Developer for Thwip. 5/12/2023
This is the second week of our capstone, and we have made very big improvements coming from the first week. Our research concerning network has gotten better to the point where we started getting connections, but we are just slightly shy of reaching the mark. This has become a norm for both Mehki and me when considering this is our first networking using the newest UE5 plugin system. There are so many things with UE5 that we still can't fathom to understand, I am slowly starting to understand just a little how things work. Our progress has been mainly asking on how to start, where to start, and why certain actions need to be taken into consideration when coding multiplayer.
One main challenge we had to face off is not having other people to rely on and just purely researching blog posts on how it's done. At first, it sounds easy but it's much more than just reading papers on how it's done, since we never did this it hindered our progress drastically. One of the key solutions is just to try to debug as much as possible from tutorials on how people did it and go from there. There is also a discord server for UE that helps people with their projects, especially networking so it has been a huge help. This has been a tough week, will continue working on the weekend to see if the connection can be made. Look forward to our progress next week!
