Devlog: Regarding the recent news around Itch and NSFW Content

As the development of Room for One More continues, I want to take a moment to talk about something that’s been impacting a lot of indie developers lately, especially those working in visual novels and adult content: restrictions on NSFW content due to outside pressure from payment processors like Visa and MasterCard.

Why this matters

Recently, platforms like Itch.io and Steam have started removing NSFW titles from search visibility, sometimes even when the games aren’t explicit. Many creators have reported this happened without notice, and their games have become harder to find or outright hidden.

This change isn’t just platform policy, it stems from financial pressure placed on digital storefronts by companies like Visa and MasterCard, who label adult content as "high-risk."

These policies don’t just hurt adult content, they disproportionately affect queer creators, independent devs, and anyone telling stories that fall outside sanitized norms.

What you can expect?

While Room For One More currently contains mostly SFW story and character development, and not currently affected by the shadowbans. it will include NSFW scenes in future updates, as intimacy is a core part of how certain relationships unfold in the narrative. These scenes are always designed to serve the story, enhance emotional depth, and reflect each character’s growth (or… struggles 👀).

That said, we're taking extra care to ensure:

• 🔞 NSFW content will be clearly marked and tagged

• 🧷 A separate 18+ patch or version may be made available if needed

• 🛡️ The Itch.io page will remain safe and compliant, to protect the project’s visibility and long-term sustainability
