Greetings, dungeoneers, and welcome back to another Fur Quests update over on Itch.
I’m happy to say that the mine minigame is officially done. Everything has been integrated, so you can now start the quest and exchange ore for gear at the blacksmith. There is still some polish I’ll get to at a later date, though, like a difficulty setting—which I certainly see a need for. At the start of this little side project, I was consistently getting 4–6 ore from each rock, but by the end, I was only managing to get a single ore from each stone or outright failing most of them. So a small difficulty setting for those who are struggling probably wouldn’t be amiss. Ultimately, though, this is an entirely optional activity that players are under no obligation to engage with.
Beyond some broader polish and bug fixes, I also added a quick travel point outside the tavern. I’ve planned to add more NPCs to make the town feel more alive for a while now, but as I began testing the goblin mountains—which you will access through the militia camp to the far south of Cliffshade (in the future; I haven’t integrated it yet)—I really felt it was finally time to add some sort of quick travel.
After spending this long on the mine, I’m really looking forward to working on the mountains for a breath of fresh air. But more on that at a later date.
Before I sign off to work on that, you might have heard there has been some unfortunate news for adult games this week. TL;DR: Steam has thrown out a ton of mature titles, and Itch has unlisted even more. The full how and why is a little beyond me. As I said, I’m struggling to even do a quick-time event right now in my current mental state, but I figured I ought to address this all the same.
From what I understand, Fur Quests isn’t in any danger of going anywhere at the moment, but how long that will last, we’ll see. A lot has changed since I started developing this game, and odds are things will keep changing, and I’ll just have to do my best to keep up with the times.
I had plans to stream development over on Fansly, for example, so I wouldn’t have to worry about censorship, but that platform is now illegal in my country. From what I understand, they’re also cracking down on anything animal-related, even if it’s as tame as neko ears, so that is no longer an option in any case.
But I’ll worry about stuff like that in the future. Right now, what matters to me is finishing Fur Quests. I have a bunch of ideas and stories I would love to explore in the Unreal Engine, taking everything I’ve learned from working in RPG Maker and creating something bigger and better than before.
But not until Fur Quests is finished. My crowd may not exactly be the biggest on the web, but your financial support has allowed me to work with some amazing and talented artists to bring my games to the next level. More importantly, your emotional support and encouragement finally got me out of a mental rut I’d been stuck in for years, pushing me to expand my knowledge, my skills, and pursue a healthier lifestyle. I will always be grateful to all of you for that.
Finishing Fur Quests is the least I can do in return, no matter how much RPG Maker might vex me at times. It might not end up on Steam as I originally intended, or even on Itch at the end of the day, depending on what future rules and policies they implement. But as long as it doesn’t violate Patreon’s or Subscribestar’s terms of service, and as long as no new laws rise up in the wake of all this, I’ll still be working on Fur Quests until it is done.
See you next time!
