Yesterday, I woke up with a strange feeling — like something was off.
Then I opened Discord and saw the admin's announcement on the itch.io server. At that moment, I knew something major was about to change.
By now, many of you have probably read the news: NSFW content is being removed from the itch.io index.
Entire games, projects, and even asset packs have vanished.
Some developers are reporting that their payments are being withheld.
Itch.io says they’re complying with pressure from payment processors.
And those processors? They’ve been under intense lobbying by Collective Shout, an ultra-conservative Christian activist group from Australia.
Claiming to fight child abuse and illegal sexual content, they’ve pushed for the broad removal of NSFW content across multiple platforms.
Let me be clear: protecting minors is important. We all agree on that.
But this is not the way.
This is an assault on freedom of expression and artistic integrity.
What’s next? LGBTQ+ stories? Dark horror games?
As an adult game developer, I’m watching my work — my time, my hope, my future — being destroyed. And I’m not alone. This affects a large part of our community.
But I won’t stop.
I won’t be censored.
We may be a small niche compared to mainstream game devs, but we’re fierce, creative, and resilient.
We won’t give up our freedom to create.
