It's finally Gold Week! It's been a battle to make it here. The game is now in a state where no further changes will be made to it. Our team's focus has been mostly spent on minor bug fixes and prep for the presentation that will be held tomorrow. I'll take you through some of my work I did over the past week as my final devlog post :)
New Audio was added for intro into RexHunt and as pickups around the map of RexHunt to infuse more story elements throughout the game. We had 3 campsites present in the map that we planned to include for story reasons. Now with the pickups, it fully ties in to the narrative and gives players a real reason to visit them besides viewing the ruins of the dad's equipment.
A consistent problems we had was that our UI was made for a 16:9 screen, and when we would build the game, we would have to accommodate playtesters with various different screen resolutions or who might scale the windowed screen in various ways. If it was even slightly out of alignment, it made the game look strange. So we've built in a solution to make the game automaticallly pillbox or letterbox based on the scaling of the build window. A black border appears outside the camera frame and the canvases all scale with the camera frame. It was a pretty big thorn in our side for a while so it was really nice to solve this issue.
For presentation, we decided that we're going to wear lanyards with name tags, so I designed the name tag after picking up some lanyards for the team. I decided to go with the laptop UI since I felt it would contrast well against our team shirt and I felt most comfortable making UI in this style. I think it'll help guests interact with us.
A lot of my job was just to smooth over the rough edges of our project, and make sure all of our gaps were filled. This entails several miscellaneous fixes to help the overall game feel. Here is a list of the ones I remembered to catelogue.
Super excited for the presentation tomorrow! Everyone worked really hard for this and we finally get to show our stuff :)
