New 2.5D version in the works

Retro Racket Revolution
A downloadable game for Windows, Linux, and Android

In pursuit of my gamedev hobby, I keep coming back to this game. It's such a simple premise, yet such a great example of just how much work and effort it is to build a game from scratch!

One thing I've never been happy with is the crappy AI sprites. I've never considered myself arty in any way, and I really just enjoy the coding aspects of game development. But I cannot let this lie, and have started to explore some options around producing some unique, handcrafted graphics for the game.

So I downloaded Blender and had a mess around with a simple tubular ship concept. I also, without shame, made full use of the amazing free samples of the BlenderKit plugin. This is my "work in progress" model for the player ship:

Moving from 2D sprites to 2.5D / 3D has been relatively straightforward in Unity, and makes a lot of things (like physics and collision detection) a bit easier for me, as I'm more familiar with those components.

I'm steadily working to replace all the game models with original 3D versions, as well as a UI revamp to bring a more "sci-fi" look and feel to the overall game:

Keep your eyes peeled for a new version soon!
