Well, the big update's finally here. I did it! Now that I'm content with the state of this game, it'll be back to Outcasts soon enough!
Let's talk about what's new!
If I'm being completely honest, I probably don't remember everything that's changed, but I remember most of the important stuff.
The Autocrat now takes multiple forms (as depicted above) when he appears in-game. Lore on them has been shared on ArtFight and will be put elsewhere for ease of access to those interested. This change is completely aesthetic.
A new mode has been added to the game (activated by pressing "S" in the main menu) which activates a timer, skips cutscenes, and logs your overall time on the game page if you're logged in!
Granted, this feature isn't super stable. It breaks dialogue, messes with some layering stuff and generally just feels janky. It's more of a feature added for fun and to test my skill as a developer. If you want a legit speedrun, play normal mode using your own stopwatch.
Some unfitting, HD tracks in the game are being replaced by chiptune versions with minimal HD instruments or reverb. The soundtrack on Bandlab and the game page will be updated soon.
Very minor tweaks to certain events and spawns.
Mess around. See what they do. Keep a sharp eye.
Whereas the game originally prompted you upon startup to log into Game Jolt using a really ugly model, you now log in by pressing "G" in the main menu.
I'm pretty sure these are all the changes. The README file was updated to warn that Speedrun Mode skips cutscenes, if that counts. Do people even read those?
That said, enjoy the update! This will probably be the last major update for the game for a long time if not forever. I'm turning back to Outcasts and I'm staying strong until it releases.
Hope everyone's doing well, enjoyed the video, and enjoys the update!
Later!
