#Release
A new foe is spotted (or friend perhaps? Depends on how you'll implement him!), the Stub is released and added to SSalmon's Underground as of today!
I'll be briefly discussing some of the animations and the functionalities of Stub. But first things first, the animations, if you refer to the image, are as follows:
A. Idle
B. Attack - Ready
C. Attack - Charge
D. Move
E. Damaged (2 Variations)
F. Despawn/Death
G. Damaged - Flash (2 Variations)
H. Spawn (2 Variations)
I. Impact/Tackle
J. Warning
K. Pop IN/OUT
Most animation names are pretty self-explanatory but I'd like to talk a bit more about the Impact/Tackle, Warning, Pop IN/OUT.
First off, Impact/Tackle is named the way it is because of two reasons:
Warning & Pop IN/OUT were made so that Stub can also serve as this asset pack's "Spike Trap"; His tile size in this animation is 16x32 so you can put them side-by-side no problem. I've also separated each segment to give you freedom when tinkering with your playback settings.
I can make the same old regular spike trap but I wanted to do something a bit different so I made Stub not only a character, but an environmental hazard as well, and I think it'll work well in communicating the danger.
That's pretty much the design philosophy behind Stub, I wanted a somewhat-friendly looking enemy/NPC that can also function when applied in the other aspects of gameplay
And moving forward, I'll be incorporating similar design choices where possible to ensure that you can be as creative as you want when implementing the characters in-game!
That's it for this devlog! For the next update, you can expect some touch ups on already existing assets as I want to revisit them first before moving onto a bigger update. More on that soon, let me know what you think about Stub!
Thanks for reading!
