Devlog #12: status update

Danger BLUE
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Danger Blue was released on March 21st. That means we’re now exactly 3 months and 1 day into the development of Episode 2. At the start, I estimated that it would take me between 6 and 9 months to complete Ep2... so today, let’s take a look at where things stand.

Story: 80% done

The storyline for Ep2 is fully written and likely won’t change anymore. There are still a few small gaps to fill in here and there, that’s the missing 20%. On top of that, quite a bit of content has already been written for future episodes as well. Ep2 will feature over 3 hours of gameplay, which is more than I originally planned!

Renders: 50% done

I think we’ve passed the 50% mark for the renders, based on the render count for Ep1, the currently rendered story content, and a bit of gut feeling. Considering it’s only been 3 months (and I’ve done a lot of writing too), I’m actually ahead of my own expectations!

Coding: 50% done

Some new gameplay elements have been added, and some existing systems have been improved. There’s still one game mechanic left that I need to create, but overall, things are progressing smoothly.

Playtesting / Proofreading: 10%

This hasn’t really started yet. I did send the first 45 minutes of the game to my playtester, just to get an early sense of direction. His feedback was that it feels like a step up in both render quality and storytelling 🥳 let’s hope you’ll agree when you get to play it 😊. Full playtesting and proofreading are planned for the final month of development.

Release planning

The original estimate of 6 to 9 months still seems very achievable. Based on the current progress, 7 months feels realistic (so 4 months to go). That said, I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, so officially I’m still sticking to the 6–9 month window. I’ll keep you posted, and once I feel confident about a release date, you’ll be the first to know!

Thanks so much for being part of this journey — whether you’re following, pledging on Patreon, or simply spreading the word online. Every bit of support helps to get Danger Blue out there!
