Minor tweaks / fixes / security update (also: coming to Steam, maybe?)

Psycutlery
A downloadable game for Windows

I've been getting ready to put Psycutlery up on Steam (I cannot say when, as a friend is doing most of the publishing for me) and thus have made several minor tweaks and adjustments for the occasion.  Admittedly, I haven't been keeping a log of what has been changed over the past year or so (I've been making games since the late 1990's, and yet I'm still learning... obviously, heh), so I might have missed some things here, or a bunch even, but off the top of my head...

  • Fixed a bunch of typos and a few minor glitches
  • Prevented potential softlocking in a few areas
  • In preparation for porting to the Steam Deck, added some button glyphs and an uncapped framerate (for the OLED models)
  • Redid the save system into something hopefully safer and more reliable (but your old saves won't work, apologies!).  Previous versions used a now outdated method that was nonetheless taught by every Unity tutorial at the time I was making this, which nowadays is apparently considered unsafe - for example, one could download a "save file" from the internet that is actually a virus in disguise, you know?  For those who wish to stick with older versions of the game to keep your save data, you should be fine as long as you don't download any save files online, but if you are not too attached to your saves, I still would encourage updating.  Yeah, I wish I had learned about this sooner...

Yeah, almost 30 years of game development, and I'm still such a "newb" at this.  Haha.  I suppose it comes with being an introverted hobbyist (with social difficulties to boot), which I feel also contributed in no small part to this game's failure to make much of an impact, despite its positive reception from the few of you who actually played it.  Hopefully by getting Psycutlery on Steam in the near future, whenever that will be - hopefully near indeed! - it will have a second chance at finding its audience.

In the meantime, I would like to extend my deepest and utmost thanks to those of you who have played the game and left kind words about it!  Making Psycutlery was practically my whole life for a decade - what began as a dumb experiment with no vision behind it somehow turned into a passion project that consumed the majority of my free time for many long years.  While I am sad that it hasn't reached more people, some of the few it has reached have shown a passion for it not unlike what I felt myself when making the game.  And that means the world to me.  So, from the bottom of my heart: thank you!
