I'm sure some of you saw the notification that some kind of update was made recently. Honestly, all I was doing was updating the itch tags and didn't realize you'd all get pinged so I was surprised to see a bunch of new comments suddenly roll in.
Some of you may have already been aware from past updates but the game has been stuck in dev hell for a while now. My previous engine wasn't working and I started the process of trying to rebuild in a new engine. There were a few attempts to see what could deliver what I needed without too high of a cost or a skill ceiling to learn. I tried RPGMaker, Ren'Py and Unreal Engine but in the end, I settled with Godot. It took a couple attempts and a lot of research but I'm now in a position where I'm further along in the rebuild than any previous attempt, and the game engine is staying light and stable. My previous attempt to hire a coder fell through, sadly, but this new engine is very promising and it's within my skill range to use.
Large chunks of the game rebuild are already finished. Menus are made, UI is being prodded and tested, the framework is all in place and we just need to build the combat portion of the game. Since I'm building with future growth in mind as well, once everything is in place, plugging in the actual content should happen at a comparatively lightning pace. There's still a lot of work left to be done but I'm more optimized about things now than I've been since the launch of the last demo.
